Wall Street Canyon I3 Tall NUC NUC 12 PRO KIT NUC12WSHI3 US Cord

This 12th gen i3 is no joke and is a complete workhorse! I purchased mine for the sole purpose to run all of my home automations. It handles Proxmox with an instance of Home Assistant and a few LXC containers without breaking a sweat. Boot time is insane- from power on to the OS fully booting takes about 10 seconds and this is with a M.2 SSD (not NVMe). I was also able to remove the WiFi card (key e) and replace it with a Coral (key a+e) without any extra configuration in the BIOS. This NUC is replacing my HP Elite Mini 6500t which has an 8th gen i5 and this blows it out of the water completely when it comes to processing speed, heat generation, boot speed, and IO ports. Positive: - Fast. Surprised me- for an i3 - Quick boot time - Has a mode in BIOS to lower fan speed (only two modes- Quite or Cool) - BIOS is easily updatable with USB drive - Doesn't exhaust much heat (at least during idle) - Thunderbolt for future accessory expansion (e.g, hdd, 10GbE NIC) - 2.5GbE NIC - No vPro, so it's one less feature to worry about if there were any security vulnerabilities Cons: - Only one NVMe slot - M.2 SSD slot isn't normal full size 2280 so you're limited on the SSD brands you can go with (2242) Things to note: - This comes with VESA mount - This model does come with a power cord (I guess other countries- they don't include this anymore) - Linux sees 12 CPU cores

I won't spoil the surprise but you'll find thermal pads and heat sinks for all kinds of stuff already installed and inside--just install drives and assembly itself places pads on those drives. Intuitive, directions engraved on the metal-insides. Absolutely beautiful. Lightning speed. Raw OS boot if init in parallel: 1s. Promised CPU speed with Windows+Intel: 4.4GHz Actual CPU speed with Debian+pqML.cpp as a load: 3.763GHz (where's my God-damned 637MHz?) Hence the 1-star rating; these newer NUCs are extremely Linux-unfriendly. Devuan is unrecognized, and when it is, the ethernet driver craps out so you cannot install Devuan. Not even pool1.iso is recognized (full distro for offline install of 5GB.) heads is not recognized. Devuan live is not recognized. Gnuinos is not recognized. Oh but if you're installing something that contains the systemd backdoor like Debian, then everything just works (Debian is mostly non-free software, check the repos selected in synaptic after installing Debian12 on this NUC12WSHi3.) And yes, the first thing I did was update BIOS with Intel's WS0088.CAP. And of course, without Windows and their "Intel video acceleration" tools, YouTube videos have that half-screen shearing problem for any movement in any video. Good thing I don't need it for video... In summary, this thing is the absolute fastest tool. For example, there is no time spent between starting a text editor like Geany, and the screen displaying Geany--instant flash. That's impressive because the last ~3.7GHz NUC I had ~ 9 years ago could never do this. I assume NUCs are fast because everything's engineered to be so close together with none or minimal bridges.

So easy to assemble that I can't believe more people don't use these. Honestly I saved about $2500 for the system I got just for sitting in some memory and hard drive. I've got this running a Linux system and it's super fast and responsive. So far so great
