Step up from the VisionTek 4900 dock! Even more performance.

I've had a few VisionTek Docks since I have worked from home for the last 18 years. The last being the VT4900 (5 years ago) which seems to be the predecessor to this Dual System KVM dock. I haven't seen many competitors making docks like this so I went back to Visiontek. Just so everyone understands, this dock works with two systems, usually laptops from what I've seen, and it provides 100watts of power to each system. So you get a super clean set up and functionality. Its just a button/hotkey to swap between systems and I can do personal stuff on my laptop (Dell) and work on my employer given laptop (Lenovo, so no issue with diff brands) simultaneously. Pay bills, look at YouTube then back to work with a click of a key! It's a single USB C connection and I have 3 x 32" LG's connected to it, achieving the highest 4k resolution. Super easy to set up, didn't even need to download drivers this go round. My high schooler even connects and does some of his art and designed stuff with the set up so he can drag and drop across the 3 screen... he loves it. So I'd say that it can be slightly higher priced but for what you get, but its worth it. Definitely maximizes performance as VisionTek claims. Thumbs up!

Impressive KVM - great product , great price!

This is a great KVM for my three 4K displays. Easy set up. Thunderbolt 3 and 4 compatibilities. Mac friendly. Lots of port expansion options, USB-C 100W power to both systems. In the box – included the USB-C cables as well for cost savings. Buyers will not have to buy them separately. If you have kids, this also works with Chrome – you can connect 2 chromebooks. I will be doing this for sure for my 2 sons. I'll be using it for my work and home computer. Great purchase and great price - highly recommended.

VisionTek VT4950 KVM USB-C Docking Station Very Impressive!

I bought this VisionTek VT4950 KVM USB-C Docking Station because my wife uses multiple laptops for work and personal. Quite frankly, I got a bit frustrated having to reconnect everything on her desk every time she wanted to use a different device. It literally took less than 10 minutes to unbox and setup with two laptops. This included connecting two monitors, wireless keyboard and mouse. The 100W power delivery to both laptops saves space and we just stored the power bricks for when we travel. Genius! This docking station is awesome! With one push of a button on the front of the dock or by just using a hotkey, the device toggles seamlessly between the two computers. She absolutely loves it. I highly recommend this docking station for anyone that has multiple computers at home or in the office. Huge time saver and works like a charm!!

Expensive doesn't mean High FPS

[First week analysis] I did a ton of research on the highest quality docks/KVM since I wanted to hook this up to my gaming PC. Of all KVM and docks, this had the most potential and I was pretty excited when I placed the order. How I set up this item: I followed the User Manual. The KVM software download was almost a bit hard to follow, they almost gave no instructions on how to do that. You have to download the Software in the Dock's USB eject folder. I'm a software engineer by day and a gamer by night, so I really needed high resolutions, fast keyboard and mouse inputs, and multiple monitor support. Although this advertises as "triple 4k display", this couldn't even handle two monitors. I hooked up both display ports and the dock started heating up after 2-3 hours. When I switched over to my Macbook Pro M1 2021, my second monitor started to go static and the entire screen went grey flashes. I immediately switched back to my PC because I didn't want anything to short on me. I ended up unplugging the second monitor to just use my main monitor for now. Everytime I switched over to the Macbook, I would keep getting notifications of "Disk Not Ejected Properly. Eject "Untitled" before disconnecting or turning it off". I'll also have moments where "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned". I haven't been able to figure out the issue or solution on this, but definitely not a good sign. It takes me about 3-4 clicks to actually fully switch from my PC to Macbook? The first time I tried the KVM switch, I clicked it once. Nothing happened. It was until I got very confused and impatient when I started spam clicking the button, and finally something happened. That's when I realized it's a consistent 3-4 clicks before it will actually switch. There are moments where I can get it to switch in 2 clicks, but my mouse input wouldn't be fully switched, and I'd have to unplug and plug in my mouse usb again. Again, these are high end gaming USB inputs, so there shouldn't be an issue there. I've never had an issue with any of my USB inputs until now. After a few hours, my mouse started to lag behind my inputs, and my cursor started to stutter on my screen when I was playing a FPS game. When my cursor went between monitors, it seemed to slowly accelerate to where the actual input is, and finally increased acceleration to catch up. I do not have mouse acceleration on. When I was dragging windows between my screens, it did the same affect. After about 30 minutes and a full refresh of turning off and turning on the dock, it would go back to normal where my windows would move smoothly between screens. However, after a few moments, it would go back to the same laggy inputs after a few hours. This did take quite a minute to set up since I had to reroute my wires. I wanted to reach out to product support before I just straight up return the item, since I kinda liked the way I cleaned up my wires. I was hoping there was a software installation that I missed, but I didn't hear anything back from VisionTek's website support, and the seller recommends me to return the product since it might be a defect. Props to Amazon return, but this was just a whole waste of time. Now I have to reroute everything back to the way it was, and drive out to UPS drop off an item that I wanted to actually use. The price is atrocious to what it's currently handling, I'd rather get a $200 range dock instead of this. If this was $199, then I would've actually kept the item and dealt with the small issues here and there. But for an almost $400 dock/KVM, I'd expected at least handle the bare minimum.

Misleading description and software is still buggy.

My biggest issue was that the description stated "VisionTek provides a 3 year limited warranty when register your product within the first 30 days of purchase." However, it does not mention that Visiontek has to approve of the seller to get this warranty. After filling out the warranty info on VT's site, Visiontek did not approve the seller, so I was not able to receive the 3 year warranty. The product worked ok. Its similar to the discontinued VT4900, which I used to have until it died on me less than 2 years later (Note why that 3 year warranty is so important). I did notice one other issue - about once or twice a day, when running the keyboard through the dock, a registered keystroke would sometimes "stick" and its like the key was held down for a certain amount of time. For example, I would type "z", but instead, it would register "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz". So the software is a little buggy within the product still. Overall disappointed considering how expensive it is.
