Great discs for my particular situation

I had a situation similar to another reviewer. My now 5 year old computer still does everything it needs to wonderfully -- except that the drive won't burn to 16X (or faster) media. When all my local stores failed me, I picked up these discs. I'm only ten discs in, but they've all burned perfectly. Thank you, Verbatim! My only (minor) issue is that both sides of the disc look similar, so make sure you mark the correct side after you burn it! But, heck, as long as it works on my computer, that's a tiny quibble. I will be buying more.... UPDATE (3/1/15)- I have now been through nearly three full packages of these disks. So far I've had maybe four that didn't burn. And one of those was from a group of disks I dropped down some stairs, so I'm not blaming that disk. So a success rate thus far of 132 out of 135 disks, give or take. Seems like a pretty solid ratio to me. UPDATE (2/2/16)- I'm still using these disks with no issues. However, the most recent batch arrived with a white label side on the disk, instead of the previous silver side (which looked very similar to the side you burn). Perhaps this is to make them printer-friendly? (I don't know as I don't print labels on my disks) Very happy to see they are striving to make the disks more user-friendly.

Are the only blank DVD-R media I buy & use

With other brands I ended up with ALOT of "coasters", poorer quality picture, chapter "skipping", that 'digital stuff' happening alot. Just a whole lot of problems and alot of waste. Wasted time and the cost of each disk rendered useless and there were alot more than should've been After making sure dvd drives were up-to-date as far as firmware (had already flashed or didn't need updated) and making sure burn speed was correct / the software settings where they need to be, I did a little research online I read alot and this was the exact brand that came up alot. The Verbatim but had to be the DataLifePlus Most DVD back-up issues are caused by the blank / target media being used, not the source or the software or the drive(s) After trying a couple brands and whatnot, I bought these I can not remember the last time I had a 'coaster'. None of that "digitalization" in the picture, I don't know what that is actually called but is what it looks like. No more chapter skipping and having to 'back up' the same source media AGAIN wasting time and money wasting disks rendered useless Have always arrived to me unbroken / uncracked, never any problems as far as that I have tried the Verbatium DVD-R but had the white top instead of shiny like these are. I just didn't like the ones with the white, I guess printable top, as much as I like these Anybody who'll be using these primarily for backing up other dvd media, and are having issues like the ones I mentioned and have checked software settings and all that, give these a try

Good DVD-R 8x media.

I have burned about 10 of these backing up files using Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 - Retail (Black) which I also bought on Amazon, and so far every burn has been smooth and successful. It is very easy to label because there are no brands or anything on it, but sometimes hard to pick which side to label since they are so nearly alike. I am using K3b 2.0.0 on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) and here is what is reported for a blank disc. Type: DVD-R Sequential Media ID: MCC 02RG20 Capacity: 510:38:38 min (4.4 GiB) Rewritable: no Appendable: no Empty: yes Layers: 1 Sessions: 0 Supported writing speeds: 6.0x (8310 KB/s) 8.0x (11080 KB/s) 16x would be faster, but this is pretty good and seems reliable. Would consider purchasing again.
