E' una docking station USB3.1gen2 (ovvero a 10Gbit) che permette di collegare esternamente dei dischi SATA alla porta USB del PC. La confezione arriva fornita di un alimentatore da 12V e 2A, dotato di una presa elettrica "componibile" sia per lo standard europeo che per quello americano. Il cavo fornito ha una porta USB Type B (da connettere alla docking station) e USB Type A da connettere al computer. Funziona bene sia con Windows che con Linux, con quest'ultimo fino ai recenti kernel 6.5. Supporta dischi SATA da 2.5 pollici e da 3.5 pollici. Con quelli meccanici da 3.5 pollici ho raggiunto transfer rate di 250 MB/s (non ci sono modelli più veloci), mentre con i dischi SSD SATA da 3.5 pollici si raggiungono transfer rate di 520/530 MB/s se collegati al PC a una porta USB3.1Gen2, e di circa 450/470 MB/s quando sono collegati a una porta USB3.0 standard. Sul sito del produttore è possibile scaricare il software per aggiornare il firmware all'ultima versione. Il software per l'aggiornamento del firmware è disponibile solo per il sistema operativo Windows.

The item came on time, I bought this docking station after I returned my previous docking station, also from StarTech, due to the fact that it didn't recognize my Seagate IronWolf 8TB. Before I purchased the docking station, I contacted StarTech about recognition of my HDD. Their answer was that so long that the HDD doesn't ask for more than 2A it will be recognized. The reason I bought this unit is because it has eSATA besides the USB. So I will have alternative in case I will need it. Problem is that not all the time it recognizes my HDD on first try (when eSATA is the connection). If it doesn't, I close the docking station until I hear that the disk stopped spinning and then turn it again. It is recognized by then. Using the USB, it recognizes on first try of turning on. didn't see much difference in reading/writing speeds between the two types of connections. Altogether, if it will be like my old docking station which is StarTech USB+eSATA, it is good product to have.

I connected the hard drive dock to a USB 3 port on my PC, plugged it in,inserted a old hard drive then turned it on and it worked perfectly. My only complaint is that the power adapter cord was a bit too short, necessitating the need for an extension cord to reach a power outlet. It also would have been nice to have had a USB cable that was a bit longer. Other than that minor complaint I highly recommend this unit.

Works pretty well, no problems so far. One thing that bugs me is that docked drives have a bit of tilt to them. Seems like the could add a plastic or rubber bumper inside to level out plugged in drives.
