You really have to look hard to find the fine print that says that so I wanted to make it clear before someone made the same mistake I did. Also it comes with an additional USB power cable that they mention is 'optional' but seems like you have to use it for every application that I tried. Also one of the metal housings fell apart straight out of the box.

Tripp lite's support is a joke. My first unit was no functional, so the first support agent sent me a new, shorter, one. That still didn't work, so I put in another ticket. They stretched out the whole process for over a month. I rarely got more than one response every few days and each time I had to be the one to reply just to them to respond. They deliberately stretched the process out, so I missed the return window. They then said there was nothing they could do and closed the ticket.

If you're in need of a very long cable that you need to connect a SINGLE device to, this may very well work for you. However, if you plan to plug any kind of USB hub into this, you can forget about it. This cable steadfastly refuses to work with any hub I plug into it. Powered, unpowered, USB 3, USB 2, a monitor, or even a keyboard with an integrated USB hub: this cable will have none of it! (Said keyboard isn't even detected as a keyboard!) Completely defeats the purpose of me getting this cable to relocate my computer to the basement.

The title says it all. If you buy this thinking that you are going to be able to use it to extend your valve index USB connection, you are going to have a bad time. You don't get anything unless you use the power attachment, and even then you only get the webcam to enumerate, none of the bluetooth stuff works. I even tried this with a powered USB hub to see if that would help (both with and without the power attachment). Nothing I tried made this work with a Valve Index.

So, this active fiber extender works well, but is not backwards compatible with USB 2 or 1. I thought I would be sneaky and see if I could hook a USB 3 hub to it and then use USB 2 (mouse, keyboard) with the hub. This does not work. I needed to run a separate USB 2.0 fiber extender for those devices and use this (along with the hub) for only 3.0 and above items (like USB thumb drives and external HDDs). So, when they say it does not support USB 2.0 or 1.0, they are serious! Other than that, it works great. Note: The metal cover can come apart if handled roughly, so you will want to tape it up well if running / pulling in an attic or crawlspace.
