Tripp Lite N044-000-R Network Cable Tester

I bought another brand for $20 and the SDI tester did not work. I replaced that unit with this one ($43) and it works well. It is easy to use. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the storage/carry case. The 3 connectors/adapters do not have a pocket or place to attach them inside the case, but just sort of flop around loosely inside. When you unzip the case (which is very thin) you need to be ready to catch the connectors. If they spent just a little more money on the case this would be a perfect unit for the home user. I am not a professional so I don't know if it would stand up to that kind of constant use, but it certainly is great for my use.

Works good. I tested all my cables, found to my surprise that three of them were "cross-over" or null modem. Spared me a lot of grief if I had tried to use them as normal cables.

It's a very simple cable tester that gives you just enough information to know that your cable is functioning and it's what you'd expect to get for the price. The QA is decent and the plastic doesn't feel too cheap. It does what I need it to do so I'm satisfied.

I bought this unit because my 20 year old one finally gave it up. Very handy for a quick connection test. Great for finding a bad crimp or a twist that weakened a wire pair. I always keep one of these in my toolbox. It saves hours of guessing and replacing random parts. Well worth the price.

I bought it a year ago and got a few questionable readings and then one of the lights stopped working causing me to have to check my connection a few times. Buy something else.
