My synology ds918+ NAS runs 24/7 for my media server and I keep it in my garage which gets to be about 80 max in the NE portion of the US during summer. It also gets kind of humid in there, maybe 60-70% if it's 100% outside. Anyway, I have four of these in my NAS. In fact I've always used this same brand I just keep upgrading to higher capacity disks when needed. For an always on 24/7 NAS storage solution in a non optimal computer operating environment I can't say enough good things about these. Never had a single failure even with years of use.
First, the drive has been a good value - needed to replace failing drives in a pinch 1-2 years ago. So far no issue, those they are a louder than the other NAS drives. The big issue is when I ran a warranty check on all the drive that were installed - and the Toshiba is out of warranty. The drive was purchased 18 mounts ago. It seems that these drives were only warrantied to the system manufacturer, not to the end user. "Serial number determined to be sold to a system manufacturer with a unique system warranty and should be returned through the system manufacturer." So just be aware if the drive fails, you have no warranty replacement.
I have never used this brand, but works great. I use in a 4 bay NAS!
I got this in Black Friday sale and seems to be good value. I tried it on a new Synology DS220 and didn’t work. I bought another brand of hard disk (Iron Wolf) and it works flawlessly. Requested for return and the new process is very troublesome. I scheduled it 2x and waited at home for the whole day and wasted my time. I wish they can just allow us to drop in the post at your convenience.
I ran 4xWD Red 2TB in a DS412+ for almost 10 years at near silent operation, never thought anything of it. I put 4 of these into a DS920+ and now....now it sits there with an audible rumble as it does it thing, I don't like the noise level in these, should have stayed with WD :(
