The SLC cache in this is fairly large. On cheaper SSDs this is commonly a problem. It starts out writing at 2000MB/s, and eventually after quite some time it starts dropping to 400 for a while and then going back up. I can't remember whether it ever went lower, but if it did, it was only momentary. Copper foil sticks well and it's pretty thick, but I ended up putting some kapton tape around this as well just because someone else said it'd fall off and it could cause a short.
