Genutzt wird der Adapter auf einem Sabertooth 990fx von Asus. 2x NM790 von Lexar und werden im BIOS sofort erkannt. Installation von Win10 auf eine der M.2 war kein Problem. Leider wird die Karte, bzw. der Kühlkörper des Chipset's nach kurzer Zeit so heiß, das man selbst die Slot-Blende nicht berühren sollte. Lt. Startech-Support sind solche thermischen Probleme nicht bekannt. Es geht dann so weit das die Karte vom PCIe Bus nicht initialisiert wird und das System nicht mehr bootet. Muss aber dazu sagen, das es sich beim Kauf nicht um "Neuware" handelte sondern um gebrauchte, Zustand "wie neu". Nachdem der Support mir geraten hat, die Karte zu tauschen - werde ich nun eine "neue" bestellen und dann vergleichen - Werde berichten und ggf. die Bewertung korrigieren. Vom Datendurchsatz her schaffen beide Nvme's im Adapter 3.1 bis 3.5GB/s - und obwohl der BUS nach PCIe 2.0 Standard ist, laufen die NM790 im 3.0 Modus - von der Geschwindigkeit bin ich mehr als begeistert. Update v. 11.11.2023: mit einer "neuen" Karte arbeitet das System nun grundsätzlich stabil. Hohe Wärmeentwicklung des Chipset trotzdem vorhanden. Ein weiterer kleiner Kritikpunkt: zwei M.2 mit optionalem Kühlkörper (zb BeQuiet MC1) zu betreiben ist problematisch, da der Abstand zwischen den beiden Slot's zu gering ist. 1-2mm mehr und es würde tadellos passen. Statt 2 nun 4 Sterne. Werde gerne weiter berichten ....

Fantastic M.2 adapter card! I was hoping to find a solution for my x99 Asus Deluxe motherboard. The card runs cool on my system with just a couple of large 160mm case fans. I have been unsuccessful in using the motherboards built in M.2 Socket 3 to recognize any NVME drive. I was about to give up, but I decided to see if a 3rd party PCIe adapter card could solve the problem. Using the latest 4101 firmware/BIOS and this StarTech PEX8M2E2 card, I am now using two NVME drives (SN850x drives), and they are working great! Note: the drives will not be listed in the BIOs "EZ page", but instead in the "Advanced" mode. To see NVME drives, use BOOT menu | and scroll down to the bottom.

I got this adapter card only after 2 other cards failed me - one for only $15 & one for $40. This card, for $165, was the only one of the 3 that worked! The reviewers of these cheaper cards said that you need to change something in your computer's BIOS/UEFI to get them to work properly. NO!!! The only thing that the UEFI does for you is to allow you to run a self-test. The $15 card didn't work at all, & the $40 card would only recognize 1 out of 2 m.2 M-key drives. This card works right out of the box, which makes me wonder - why can't these other manufacturers make a card that works for half the price? ONLY RECOMMENDED if you need to install 2 additional m.2 M-key drives in your computer.

Used in a 16x Pci slot in my 2012 Mac Pro 5.1. Used with my 1TB Samsung 980 Pro w/heatsink m.2 NVME hardrive. Getting read and write speeds between 2700-2800mbps. Thats amazing for an old computer with at the time stick 4-core CPU and 1066mhz ram. If the card is raided with 2 drives I believe it will get over 3000mbps as stated. However software prevents booting from a Raid Drive. This is more than sufficient for my use. Card works flawlessly and interfaces as if it was built for your computer. 5 stars. Also build quality is great and stays cool.
