Protect your sensitive data from unauthorized access wherever you go, with this encrypted hard drive enclosure for 2.5" SATA SSDs and HDDs. It encrypts the data on your hard drive and uses the latest biometric technology to limit users through fingerprint access.

Secure Data Protection

The external SSD/HDD enclosure provides reliable protection against data leaks using hardware-based 256-bit encryption, based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256), one of the most secure encryption methods.

Fingerprint Access

With the encrypted hard drive enclosure, you can limit data access to pre-authorized individuals, by storing up to eight fingerprints for fingerprint access. There is also one master password making it easy to manage and change fingerprint profiles.

Versatile Portable Storage

Too expensive at Recommended Retail Price.

This is for the S251BMU3FP (fingerprint version). The fingerprint sensor works regardless of orientation, scanning it then unlocking it at 90 degrees or 180 degrees all works. It takes about 5 seconds after plugging it in before it will start reading fingerprints. Uses the initio INIC-3782N, initio INIC-3637EN and MXIC 25L3233F. One side of the inner plastic housing is a fingerprint magnet, which is a ridiculous oversight since this unlocks with your fingerprint. Magnets won't stick to the outside metal shell, but will to the screws. If there's no drive inside, the software won't appear when plugged in. The software appears as a read only CD drive. The encrypted drive won't appear until it's unlocked (it appears in Windows's Disk Manager, but is "not ready"). If you factory format the drive with the software, it will be formated as exfat. You can use the enclosure to encrypt multiple 2.5" drives with a password, however if you want to use the fingerprint functionality, you can only use 1 drive with it. Each drive has it's own password and new drives use the default password. If you setup another drive, the old drive won't unlock with fingerprint (Error led) and attempting to start the software will say fingerprint module mismatch and only let you continue if you clear all fingerprints. After clearing fingerprints, you can unlock the drives using a password through the software. If you remove the drive and put it in a normal (non-encrypting) enclosure, it'll come up as an uninitialised drive. Likewise, if you put a normal formatted drive in this enclosure, it will come up as uninitialised. It's possible to connect the enclosure with no drive, unlock with fingerprint (Ready LED goes green) and then connect the drive and it'll unlock (you only have one chance at unlocking while doing this, subsequent tries will do nothing). If you do this but insert the wrong drive, it'll come up as uninitialised. Running the software without a drive (I copied the exe to desktop) and connecting the drive with a normal enclosure won't work, it won't detect the drive. Ejecting the drive most of the time changes the status from Ready green LED to Wait blue LED, sometimes it stays at Ready, but is unmounted. Even if it goes to Wait, you need to disconnect and reconnect to unlock it. Getting about 250MB/s with Silicon Power A55 2TB. I tried installing Windows 10 ToGo on it with Rufus, but it won't boot. On my PC, it'll launch to Recovery and attempting to enter recovery the PC will restart into the same screen again. On my MacBook, it shows as bootable when selecting Startup Disk, however upon restart, it'll just go to MacOS. If you hold option to select the boot drive, it won't show up. I tried using dd to clone an encrypted and fingerprinted drive to perhaps have two drives that can unlock with fingerprint, but I still get the fingerprint module mismatch with the new drive so it seems the enclosure itself stores some information. Works well with my Synology DS920+ NAS. Unlike with the Samsung T7 Touch, I get no unmounted incorrectly messages when I unlock with the fingerprint. The encrypted drive (not the software drive) comes up in Synology File Station and USB Copy. It's possible to screw in the screws with your finger and it won't slip out (comes with a small metal and plastic screw driver and one extra screw for both enclosure and to secure the drive). The ventilation is bad, there are only holes in one side and gaps from manufacturing tolerances on the other; don't put drives that heat up too much in this. If you could use fingerprint unlocking with any number of drives, it would justify the price, but unfortunately you can't. Price only makes sense if you match it with 2TB+ of storage and you're ok with a bulkier drive.

Works well but slower speeds than non-encrypted enclosures, Only seems to work on windows.

I picked this up to make an encrypted backup drive. I wanted to have a drive that I could carry with my laptop for backups on trips incase I had a failure with my laptop and my code base but I wanted the drive to be encrypted. So I picked this up and tested it out; I found that I can only get about 80% of the max speed on this drive even if I don't have encryption enabled. Also in order to encrypt the drive I have to erase it entirely which isn't so great and didn't really work for me. I had to jump through hoops to move my backup data somewhere else in order to encrypt it. While the decryption system does work well.... it seems to require windows as I couldn't get the drive to appear on Chrome OS or Android or even on Linux (especially once encrypted). I wish they had some system that worked without windows. Overall I put it back in the box because I needed linux & chromeOS support also.
