This Thunderbolt 3 to 4x M.2 PCIe SSD enclosure enables you to turn four M-Key PCI-Express based M.2 NVMe or AHCI solid state drives (SSDs) into a high-performance external storage solution. The SSD enclosure is self-powered with an included 72W EPS power supply that powers the enclosure, the connected drives, and provides up to 15W of power to any downstream Thunderbolt 3 devices. A 2.3 ft. (70 cm) Thunderbolt 3 Certified host cable is also included, to connect the enclosure to your computer. High Performance M.2 Storage via 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 The enclosure is compatible with 80mm M.2 PCIe based (M-Key) single/double-sided SSDs. Create an external storage solution that utilizes the high-performance bandwidth available to your Thunderbolt 3 port, providing combined data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps for up to four drives. The vented metal enclosure features thermal pads and a cooling fan to ensure your SSDs are operating at optimal temperatures. Dedicated 8Gbps Throughput for Each Individual Drive A single 8 Gbps PCIe lane is dedicated to each connected drive. This ensures consistent read/write performance across the entire enclosure, regardless of individual drive activity. The enclosure also supports software RAID with storage management systems like Storage Spaces (Microsoft), RAID Assistant (macOS), or mdraid/mdadm (Linux). The support for software RAID, combined with exceptional drive performance, makes this the ideal enclosure for creative professionals working with large files such as high-resolution graphics, video, and CAD files. Thunderbolt Certified This enclosure is Thunderbolt Certified to ensure an optimal user experience and compatibility when connected to a Thunderbolt 3 host device, such as a MacBook Pro 16, 13, Air, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon / T Series, Dell XPS / Latitude / Precision or HP EliteBook. The external drive enclosure is also forward compatible with Thunderbolt 4 devices (at Thunderbolt 3 performance). Additional Ports for Workspace Flexibility The enclosure features a DisplayPort output port, enabling you to connect a DisplayPort monitor to your computer through the Thunderbolt 3 enclosure, with resolutions up to 4K 60Hz. The enclosure also features a downstream Thunderbolt 3 port for daisy chaining an additional TB3 device or connect an additional TB3 compatible display (up to 5K 60Hz). M2E4BTB3 is backed for 2-years, including free 24/5 multi-lingual technical assistance. Notes: This device is not compatible with SATA based (B-Keyed or M+B Keyed) M.2 solid state drives. This device does not support Thunderbolt 2 or Thunderbolt 1 host devices using interface adapters. This device only supports 80mm M.2 SSDs. Connected downstream devices share bandwidth with connected SSDs and may reduce overall data transfer performance when connected. Apple Mac computers with M1 processors can only support one external display connected through the SSD enclosure. However, Apple Mac computers with Intel or M1 Max / Pro processors can support dual external displays connected through the SSD enclosure.

Profesionelles Bay

Habe das 4-Bay seit einigen Wochen im Dauerbetrieb mit vier 4TB-NVMe (zwei Raids á 8TB). Hält, was es verspricht. Solide Verarbeitung, geringe Wärmeentwicklung. Leistung wie beschrieben. Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

Randomly Ejects on Mac Studio M1 Max

I bought this to use as a RAID 1+0 external drive for my Mac Studio M1 Max. The unit itself is well made and very compact, and it's a simple job to install the drives. I used the Apple RAID Assistant to set up RAID 1+0 (a stripe of mirrors) with 4 Crucial P3 Plus 4TB NVMe drives. Read performance was as expected for PCIe 3, around 2,500MB/s but write was disappointing at just over 1,200MB/s. The write and read speeds dropped very quickly after copying around 10GB of video files, only managing sustained speeds of 350MB/s write and 500MB/s read (my G-RAID spinning drives are as fast), turns out it was the Crucial drives at fault, not the enclosure, so DON'T buy or use cheap QLC drives in this enclosure, best with high quality TLC or MLC drives such as the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus, Samsung 980 Pro or 990 Pro (I know these are all PCIe 4 so the max you will get on PCIe 3 is around 3,000MB/s write / 3,500MB/s read). My biggest issue with the enclosure was the volume randomly unmounting, even during file operations. This was not due to any power management, and the temperature of the individual drives remained well within limits. I tried using a single drive, two drives in RAID 0 and RAID 1, JBOD with all four drives, and even another 1TB drive I had but the unmount issue remained. I believe the one I received must have been faulty as I had a long call with Apple support and we tried everything possible. I have since returned this and replaced it with the OWC Express 4M2 which remains mounted, although the speed is still the same, hence pointing at the Crucial drives which have also been returned. As others have pointed out the fan is very noisy, more a high pitched squeal that becomes quite distracting after a while. But overall it's a well made compact enclosure that should work well but let down by the noisy fan and, in my case, a faulty device.

Veel geluid van de koel fan

Er komt veel te veel geluid van de koel fan. Zoveel geluid dat je denkt dat het apparaat gaat opstijgen. Waardeloos.

Super slim, easy to use, not as noisy as people complained about

Adding a photo to reference, but this is the exact form factor as my 16tb seagate external drive, but less than half the hight. On top of that is my OWC 4 bay enclosure, so it's half the length, 3x the height, and about 2x the weight. I loved my OWC for the last 2 yrs, but it;'s bulky as hell, so I went with this StarTech one. The fan is decently loud, but not so bad that your life come crashing down like some reviews make it sound. The StarTech one is even quieter than that. I have it running during zoom calls all day, and never a problem. Maybe if you have a super sensitive mic while recording content it could be a problem... but then just put it under the desk or something. Easy to use. Stays cool. Gives as much performance as the best enclosures. I wish the TB ports were labeled so that you knew which was which... I remember some reviews saying there was a difference in function, but I've not had issue. Pros: - Form Factor. Love how I can just slide it into my laptop bag and go... well, minus the power supply. - Speed. Definitely matched my OWC enclosure, and thats supposed to be the best one out there. - Heat Dissipation. Have not experienced ANY throttling, even after hours of heavy use. You can feel some warmth after that long, but totally expected with that kind of abuse. - Noise. Many complaints about noise, but I just don't see it as that bad at all. Cons: - The daisy chain ports are powered separately, so if you have another drive connected, and eject this one, hear it spin down, and think you can just pull the plug... nope. Remember to eject those first, then pull. - Weight. While MUCH lighter than the alternatives, and it IS VERY sturdy, I wish it were half the weight. But I'm a constant traveler.
