Works great with Thinkpad T410

Before ordering a DisplayPort adapter, I read that some could be problematic with Lenovo (Thinkpad) PCs - certain adapters would pass through video, but not audio. The SIIG was reported to work with Thinkpads and it does. Using it with my T410 proved to be the easiest install ever. Works perfectly if plugged (via an HDMI cable) directly into my HD TV and equally well when plugged into the HDMI port of my Pioneer reciever. In fact when used with my reciever, it permits Dolby 5.1 or DTS surround sound when using DVD in the PC's drive. Have not tried this yet with Netflix, but imagine similar results. As I recall, first-time setup required selection of the appropriate device in the "Sound" section of "Control Panel". However, after that, it seems to default to the appropriate external device without setup. Using the DisplayPort with an HD TV is much easier than fooling with the traditional PC port and the SIIG adapter works great.

Mini DP to HDMI worked perfectly - must be the multi-channel digital audio!

I have a Thinkpad Helix and wanted to display 1080P using HDMI and also send audio. I tried two other mini DP to HDMI adapters, and my Helix did not show audio for neither. One of such adapter claimed Thunderbolt compatibility with audio. But no luck. I tried a 720P HDMI monitor with speaker, a 50" LED HDTV, to a 1080P projector through a 7.1 receiver. No luck for all. Given the two adapters worked with my other Thinkpad laptops (W510, W520 with Nvidia), I thought the problem could be this very new laptop/tablet, and I started to fiddle with software/driver updates from Lenovo and Intel. No luck. Then I read online that Lenovo customer support identified SIIG as a compatible adapter. So I bought it. Lo and behold, it worked within 2 seconds after connection! I heard sound coming from my TV and receiver without any special configuration! I guess with newer laptops with newer, fancier audio chips doing multi-channel audio streaming, most of the current mini DP to HDMI may not be compatible.. Thankfully for SIIG's mini DP to HDMI!

Works with Eyefinity

The reason I bought this adapter was for Eyefinity. My HD 5770 runs my 3 monitors perfectly at 5040x1050. I am running 3 different kinds of monitors. 2 of them(HP, Gateway) are 22" at 1680x1050. However, my third is a 23" Viewsonic at 1920x1080. I have the 23" in the center. I usually run an extended monitor setup when I'm not using eyefinity for gaming(because I can run each monitor at its native resolution). It works great for the most part. I have had some issues however. I was running this adapter to my center screen(the 23") but every once in a while the screen would go black. Or get all distorted. This was while running at 5040x1050 AND my native rez when I was just running extended desktop. So I switched the adapter to my left monitor and the problem seems to have gone away. Perhaps because my center monitor had a higher native resolution, or maybe it has something to do with it being the center monitor. I don't really know. But it seems to be working fine now. Just looking at the other reviews of this product, they seem to have the same problem however switching the adapter to a side monitor seems to resolve it. Weird, but it works great now. One cool thing about Eyefinity is you can create hot keys to switch resolutions. So you can go from work to play real quick. Overall, if you want to run eyefinity get this. It just works.

Works for Eyefinity

I have an ATI 5770 connected to 3 20" LCD monitors (2 Dell and 1 Samsung) running 5040x1050. There is some occasional flicker on the monitor using this adapter, but refreshing the monitors in the Catalyst software clears it right up. It's a small inconvience considering the price and availability of the active DP to VGA adapters. I'm happy with it, and it let me try out Eyefinity without spending too much money. On a site note: My biggest complaint with Eyefinity is not the extensive hardware setup, it's the lack of game support. Not many games truly support the correct FOV (field of view). Most games simply stretch the video to fill out all 3 screens; it distorts everything and makes everyone look fat. It's almost a fisheye look. There are some hacks to fix some games, Modern Warfare 2 for example, but the native support is just not there yet. I'm sure going forward game developers will impliment this feature, but if you're looking to play all of your old games in multi-screen glory you may be dissapointed. NOTE: ATI has a current list of supported Eyefinity games on thier website. EDIT: Since this review, I moved the DP adapter from the center Samsung display to the left Dell display and have not had a single flicker. The Eyefinity "group" seems to be stable now.

This passive display port to vga adapter works for EYEFINITY.

This passive display port to vga adapter works for EYEFINITY. I was able to get it to work under these conditions: 1) I'm currently using Visiontek Radeon 5770 graphics card. 2) I'm using Catalyst 10.1 3) I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, 4 gigs of RAM 4) I'm using 3 IDENTICAL monitors (ACER H213H 21.5" 1920x1080) 5) My left monitor is DVI using a single-link DVI cable 6) My center monitor is Display Port using this passive display port to vga adapter 7) My right monitor is DVI using a single-link DVI cable 8) My current resolution as a "GROUP" for Eyefinity is 4800x900 9) There's slight ghosting on the monitor using the adapter Notes: I can run EYEFINITY at a maximum of 5760x1080, BUT it becomes UNSTABLE, and occassionaly the center monitor (the one with the display port to vga adapter) will begin to flicker and produce a scrambled image. When this happens, I'll either go to the Task Manager and Esc out to refresh the screen or I'll open Catalyst and swap the resolution back and forth til the screen fixes itself after refreshing. Running the resolution at 4800x900 seems stable. But like other reports indicate, sometimes the monitor connected via display port will blank out, BUT it'll pop back in a few seconds. Currently, active display port to dvi adapters (like the one by Dell, Accell, Sapphire) are hard to find, but if you need a quick fix for Eyefinity, this will do you.
