Super Fast

This is a super fast, easy set up piece of equipment. I am extremely happy, especially for the price. Everything is working well, but if anything changes I will come back and will update this review.

Some of conflicting marketing, but seems to work fine, coil whine for sure

I tested this mostly with a Thinkpad X1 Nano Gen 1, but also some on the 14in Macbook Pro and, the Thinkpad Z16 Gen 1, and the Thinkpad P14s Gen 4. Interestingly, it seems to have pretty good support for AMD's USB4 implementation. Power delivery is 96W according to macOS and Lenovo vantage. It's not the perfect 100W, but it's close enough and should do fine on a lot of devices, including the Intel Macbook Pros and definitely the Apple Silicon Macbook Pros, in addition to a lot of Windows ultrabooks. It does have a pretty large 150W power supply, there's enough cable length, but you definitely need to find somewhere to stow this thing. The ports are decent, you get 5Gbps USB-A, 10Gbps USB-C, a SD card, and headphone+mic jack at the front, and then 5Gbps USB-A, 10Gbps USB-A, DisplayPort, ethernet, and an additional Thunderbolt passthrough port on the back. I did test my NVME m.2 Thunderbolt 3 enclosure, and the Thunderbolt 3 port on the back is working at full speed. It's interesting they went with Displayport instead of HDMI. Build quality is excellent, it's an aluminum shell with internals that slide in. There's 2 thumb screws on the back that when loosened, allows the internals to slide out from the front. This gives access to the internals, and after removing 2 phillips screws, gives you access to the 2 m.2 ports. I find it odd that the m.2 mounting doesn't have the screws already on there, but is instead included in a separate plastic bag in the box. There's some massive thermal pads that seems to be used for cooling, and interestingly an unused 3-pin fan header (maybe there's a design that uses the same internals with a cooling fan?). The 2 boards internally seems to be interconnected over PCIE slots electrically. The m.2 ports are 2x PCIE 3 lanes, hence why the theoretical max of 1500mbps transfer when installing a m.2 drive. This is still an interesting feature to have for a Thunderbolt 3 dock, typically you would expect to dump storage through a Thunderbolt 3 passthrough port, but this dock has internal storage solutions. This actually makes it pretty good for a desktop computer that has Thunderbolt 3 support, whether it's an OEM computer, a laptop that basically is permanently used as a desktop, or a custom-built PC that has hardware for Thunderbolt 3 There is a bit of coil whine, it's not as egregious as the Dell WD19TB, but it can be audible when you're an arm's length away. The coil whine seems to be relatively inconsistent though. The "gimmick" (although technically it's not really a gimmick, more of the selling point) is 2x m.2 slots that can operate at 2 lanes of PCIE 3 speeds, so this is a bit of a special dock. At the time of this review it's $269 w/ a 7% discount coupon. This isn't as expensive as say, the OWC Thunderbolt Go dock, but that dock's gimmick is an internal power supply. There's certainly cheaper options, but I don't think there's a lot of Thunderbolt 3 docks that have internal storage available, let alone 2. I can see this being great for a desktop with Thunderbolt 3/Thunderbolt 4/USB4, because at some point if you need extra storage, it's safer to just invest in a NAS. Overall, apart from the coil whine, this is a pretty good Thunderbolt 3 dock with some interesting features. However if you don't need internal storage in a Thunderbolt dock, there are definitely cheaper options out there.

Power Switch would have been appreciated.

Would be nice if they included a power switch. Peripherals with LEDs stay lit 24/7 without one. Included TB3 cable is very short. Maybe 18 inches? I feel like these docks need 1M cables otherwise placement is too restricted and you end up having to buy your own cable, anyways. At this price point, there is no excuse for that. NVMe heat sink didn't include screws to secure it. I had spares I dug out of a drawer and used, but this should have been included in the box. Only included the screws to secure the drives themselves. I almost tore some of the insulating material installing the hear sink. It isn't solid, and you can literally rub and tear it, so be careful. Heating does not easily slot into place, so this is a legitimate risk. Power supply is huge. Almost as big as the unit itself (which is a pretty nice size) its also quite heavy. Otherwise it works fine, but I can't keep a PC in a sleeping area with these LEDs staying on 24/7, and its too annoying to manually unplug and plug things in when using or not using. May exchange for a unit with a power switch. Not sure, yet. EDIT: The Apple 0.8M TB3 Cable is pretty perfect for something like this. So, I'd recommend that to pair with this as the stock TB3 Cable really is something you'd expect to come with a bus-powered drive enclosure or something. It will be find if you're using this with something like a Mac Mini or Mac Studio, where the Dock can sit next to the computer. Not very good with a Laptop, though, as setups often require more space between components (The Dock and the Laptop, etc.) and putting the Laptop on a riser increases the length you need from the cable. You don't want anything that can easily pull out - slack is needed. Just make sure you check for Discounts at Best Buy or use Veterans or First Responder Discounts at the Apple Stock if you buy from there (cable was only $30 and change from Best Buy with a discount).

Excellent thunderbolt dock with built in dual NVMe slot.

This is the thunderbolt dock I was looking for my MacBook Pro 16 M1Max. This has 2 internal NVMe slots that meets my storage needs without having multiple external hard drives. The dock works really well with my 4K monitor with display port connection. There’s also another thunderbolt port to daisy chain other thunderbolt devices. If there was one missing option that would either be a second display port or a HDMI port to use two monitors without using the second thunderbolt port. But in in many ways this is exactly what I was looking for and am tempted to get a second one. I am hoping that this will go on sale soon. Highly recommended!

Great double NVMe & port replicator on TB3

Great double NVMe & port replicator on TB3. Everything is OK. I have only one small complaint: NVMe heatsink is a little bit misplaced (not covering last cca 3-5 mm of chips).
