The Best Smart Bulbs

I had Sengled bulbs that would automatically turn on after a power failure. I replaced them with these that I can set the way I want. Much better!

Definitely overpriced

Let me start by saying that these bulbs work really good, nothing wrong there. The cost of these however, is far too high for what they are. These do not use WIFI or a hub/bridge thing, they use bluetooth which means you might wanna connect them to a smart assistant in the same room

only if on sale

hues are good products but overall expensive. if you can get these on sale get them. please note this is the warm white bulb and the software cannot change the whites. so if you are looking for a multi white bulb, these are not them

A great set of bulbs: They offer bluetooth support, but still get a Zigbee hub and switches.

Philips Hue has been a product I've absolutely loved: It's not cheap, but it offers an incredibly capable product. Earlier Hue models were specifically restricted to only utilizing Zigbee (hence the Hue Hub), but newer models allow for Bluetooth connections to the bulbs. Personally I would recommend you still spring to get a Zigbee hub, because it means if the internet is down you're not going to lack control of your lights (as long as you get another Zigbee device that can communicate to them, like a switch: easy enough). Hue has never been the cheapest product, but it's got deep support across all ecosystems, a good range of product in its own ecosystem, and a good amount of supporting products. When I mention switchs, my current favorite (for example) is the Lutron Caseta: while Philips Hue's switchs were serviceable, the Caseta allows for one touch on/off control as well as a dimmer dial on said control that means its incredibly easy for people to operate without even realizing that these are smart lights. They don't offer multi-stage control so you're not going to be able to go through scenes, but I generally find that people who are not the ones actually buying these products usually will get annoyed at having to jump through hoops. Hue offers you ability to side step those hoops: other cheaper bulbs *work*, without question, but when I was helping my parents setup a guest bedroom to be more guest friendly I was definitely a bit irked that they had cheap/generic smart LED's for their lamps, as I couldn't suggest a switch to utilize with them. If you're just going to be controlling lights via Google/Alexa there is cheaper options, but I like the versatility and support. As for brightness: If its a relevant factor, Hue recently released a MUCH brighter 1600 lumen white light - twice that of these bulbs 800 lumen output. An 800 lumen output is equivalent to a 60W incadescent, or up to a 12W LED bulb. So these have a fairly normal/standard lumen output, and I have had absolutely no complaint. The 1600 lumen is equivalent to a 100W incadescent or up to 22W LED bulb. If you're replacing a higher output bulb, it might be worthwhile to look at the high lumen bulb versus this kit. But, again, want to emphasize that these are pretty standard lumen output, with the advantage that you can adjust the temperature of the light. You don't get the color options, but being able to red or blue shift the bulbs is still fantastic: I much prefer a softer less harsh ambiance for reading, so I tend to keep it there. Recent Hue HomeKit updates (if you're running that) allow for bulb temperature to be automated based on the time of day, with it being a bluer-bright white during the day, shifting towards the softer red-white during night. You can mimic this yourself via automations (and Hue offers a built in skill for it), but the HomeKit integration is quite impressively handled and I wanted to highlight here. Other improvements since launch is that Hue offers a 'power on default' state now: so if you turn off the light switch you can have it revert to a specific state, while originally it would just refer to a full brightness bright white that could be blinding if you weren't expecting it. The power on default is an absolutely wonderful feature. Bottom line: They're not cheap, and they offer bluetooth support now where they didn't before, but it's still worth getting a Zigbee hub and switches so you're not entirely dependent on WiFI.
