I got mine to store huge files online as it meant to be. The problem is, that if u want it urgently through ur phone via app, u just can't. It's way too slow. I used to have the WD, still can access faster. I mean like the WD could get me what I want in just 10 seconds, while Synology would take more 20 MIN. So, if u r looking a huge space and not thinking how fast it would b, then it's the choice. U can't find too many options out there yet. Synology and WD still on top of the lead 👍 One more thing, u have to b a bit Tech person to deal with it

This is an excellent NAS overall. DSM is a great platform, functional and powerful. The form factor, size, and power consumption of this model is great for my needs. Awesome to see 10GbE NIC options on this model series. I would like to see more 3rd party drive models and PN variations for the same drive added to the compatibility list. I know the manufacturer has made compromises here showing they do listen to customer feedback and they do not want to detract from their branded drives. However, in my humble opinion broader compatibility is a win-win for both the consumer and the manufacturer in the long run. A solutions flexibility is highly valued by those who spec out and purchase/recommend these solutions, at home and in the enterprise.

I bought the 1522+, set it up with btrfs, with check sum for data integrity and shr-2 (raid 6 allowing for 2drive failure with option for expandability). This replaces an old 212j (that replaced an 208j) and exceeds expectations for easy of use, transferability, and capabilities, including multiple sync folders with multiple users. Originally looked at the 923+ but wanted shr-2 and needed the extra drive bay for that. Check sum tell’s operating system which copy files are corrupted so it knows which on to overwrite to correct. Know your wants and needs and refer to synologys raid calculator to help pick the right model for you. Watch that model like a hawk, there are substantial sales, pounce when they hit your price point. I’m using modest 4Tb enterprise class nas drives (I’ve had laying around) and plan to expand if they fail or storage is insufficient. It’s got enough horsepower to spin up a VM or four, but doesn’t transcode. It’s perfect for me, and my use scenario. I plan to install m2 ssds as a storage pool ( I don’t think it’s officially supported) but not difficult to do, for VMs. All of my past synology nas purschases have been solid for over a decade. The 208j was too old, too small and too slow to keep in service. Replaced one failed drive on the 212j (no data loss, long rebuild, never truly optimized after replacement, did not significantly affect use or stored data.)

My first NAS was a Japan made unit with mostly good reviews. It included hard driver, though they were not NAS rated drives, just ordinary desktop drives. It arrived and I found that there s/w has not been updated in a long time. It was not easy finding the s/w to start with. The included CD version of the s/w did not work at all on my MacBook Pro. Then came Synology... Wow! A huge difference. DSM is so powerful and feature rich. I just have my 1522 up and configured... now I have to go learn how best to use it. Prime days helped with the decision as well. By the way there is s 1 Star review that makes me want review comments re-instated. It is so wrong. Look out for it. So what I seen so far leads me to recommend the DS-1522+. Should things change, I will update this review.

Product arrived on time. Well protected in excellent condition. It was very easy to insert drives and setup. I have had a few challenges connecting my computers to NAS, but that's on my lack of knowledge. YouTube tutorials were very helpful. I would recommend this product.
