Nutze die NAS jetzt seit rund 2-3 Jahren, und bin sehr zufrieden. Einmal musste ich eine Platte tauschen, da mir der Monatsreport einen Fehler gemeldet hat, aber der Restore über das Betriebssystem von Synologie war komplett problemlos. Das einzige "Manko" ist für mich, dass sie beim anstarten der Platten aus dem Ruhemodus etwas lange benötigt. 10-20 Sek., da fehlt mir aber der Vergleich zu anderen Herstellern. WakeOnLan funktioniert problemlos, zumindest wenn sie vorher nicht mal komplett stromlos war. In dem Fall muss der erste Restart von Hand durchgeführt werden.

I've moved my media and backups from 4 computers to the NAS and also use it for office documents and remote logins. So far everything works like a charm.

So, I go this for secondary storage of VMs and PLEX content. When I was goofing around with it, I started messing with the IP camera recorder. Very cool little app, although you only get 2 licenses and extras are $50 per. The issues are as follows: Software RAID. To add another disk to an array, or build an array, literally takes days. I finally got all four of my 6TB drives and started to build the array. It is estimated to complete after about 36 hours, although that estimate moves around. I've checked the support site and done a few tweeks that are supposed to speed it up and they seemed to have worked for a while, but it's back to about where it was last night in terms of throughput. Do yourself a favor, put four drives in it and build the array while there is no data on it. You can start it up and come back in a few days. Adding a drive after the array has been built and has data on it is asking for pain. Lose power during the expansion and you're likely to lose your data. A UPS is all but mandatory. Despite having two USB3 interfaces, the DS418 will not write surveillance files to an attached USB drive. There are a few linux tricks to get past this, but the interface will not permit it. Ridiculous. I don't want my storage drives spinning all of the time simply to write IP camera data of a leaf blowing in front of the camera. There are lots of software packages for this device and they seem well written, but I cannot understand the abysmal RAID creation/expansion times. Synology needs to add a fast build/rebuild setting.

My brother encouraged me to setup a NAS for my small business office. He picked out the parts and put it together for me and started moving files. I'm very happy with the hardware, software, price, and process. So far, so good!

I bought this NAS to connect to my google wifi. I am not a techie person but I wanted to consolidate all of my files on to one server that could be accessible from any computer but also remotely. I watched the setup video by Synology and setup went much smoother than I expected. I have the NAS connected to both Mac and Windows machines and have had zero issues so far. It has exceeded my expectations. I know the NAS is capable of much more but it meets my needs as currently setup.
