When my ER505 failed, I upgraded to the ER707-M2 to have the 2.5 Gbps uplink to the modem. I needed some help from tech support to get this working, but the bottom line is this: Ports 1 and 3 are by default WAN ports. If you do some minimal configuration before adopting and provisioning the ER707-M2 AND configure port 3 as LAN, provisioning resets port 3 from LAN to WAN. If your OC200 or OC300 is on a switch connected to Port 3, the network appears to have failed the provisioning and is anything on the switch for port 3 is non functional. Other than that, my network is running great again.

Device is not designed to work on commercial or enterprise networks. It can only manage 2 switches and 10 APs, the layout of the controller gui is horrid and missing basic fundamental actions. Omada support informed me that the device was only supposed to be used in small systems like 7-11s and couldn't handle anything larger. The on device storage is minimal and the logs filled what was available after a week of running. Absolute crap, go with Ubiquiti instead for anything more abundant that basic residential networks.

What an amazing little router. I absolutely LOVE the fact that it's INCAPABLE of Wi-Fi! Also, flawlessly compatible with OpenWRT.

Bought this ER707-M2 to take the internet gateway job over from my NETGEAR RAX48, and mainly to gain a business grade VPN service. The RAX48 is a solid workhorse, but RAX48 VPN is very basic. The TPLink ER707-M2 has every flavor of VPN I could need to use from IOS/Android/PC/Mac/Linux clients and even site to site VPN with Microsoft Azure. The price is certainly great, and you don’t have to pay a bunch of licensing fees to anyone to get the services the device provides. Just buy the device, set it up, configure and use it. Connected the ER708-M2 to my Fibre to ISP, then plugged my RAX48 into the ER707-M2 and witched the Rax48 to AP mode. Configured VPN. Everything on the internal net is now accessible over VPN from anything and anywhere. Really pleased. And the clients OOKLA speedtests showed the same throughput results as before. Perfect.

Using the Omada S/W, there is a ton of choices, some buried in the menus. Spent a lot of time on Google to sort out the correct functions to provide what I needed. Basically, I needed an A/B WAN failover switch function. Managed to get it working but was very disappointed in failover time to switch when primary WAN was removed (failed). Takes about 45 seconds. What is even stranger, takes almost a minute to recover back to main WAN, once it was restored. Overall functionality is excellent, other than terribly slow switch and recovery time.
