OPEN BOX - Ubiquiti Networks Switch Enterprise 8 PoE (White)

It features 8 ports of 2.5G BaseT, 120W of 802.11at POE, and 2 10Gb/s SFP+ ports. It's a dream box for a high performance SOHO network that needs a silent POE switch with higher than gigabit speeds. Honestly it could suffice as a small network core switch and in fact did for a time in my network. So really what's not to like??? Well... HEAT!!! This thing get HOT!!! Uncomfortably hot. Hot enough some users are reporting freezing, crashes, and resets. And hot enough I was concerned about potential fire. I'm not some panicy idiot, but this thing could burn you... And i was running only about 25W of POE in a 70-75 degree room. So I threw a Hail Mary and tried active cooling. Adding a centrifugal fan over the top vent has the problem solved. Temps (registered by the switches own internal monitor) dropped 40 dregrees from 160F to 120F. It now runs cool and I've never had a function or performance issue. So my thoughts are, it's a great "unfinished" product. It needs proper active cooling. Although my install now works properly and seemly safe, I can't recommend this and won't be purchasing this model again. It's been moved to the lower level of the house and still feeds POE to 2 access points and 2 cameras. But my office switch has been upgraded to a model with active cooling.

I am a huge fan of Ubiquity equipment. Unfortunately, this particular unit overheats frequently and requires a restart for it to start functioning again. I've put a small fan next to it and that seems to help the issue - but I really feel that shouldn't be necessary. I keep my office at 72 F or lower and it isn't sitting in the sun or exposed to any heat sources.

Constantly overheating, the fan doesn't spin up and online it says because it's meant to be a "desk top switch" and that would be "annoying to the user". Well, it freezing up and half my network going down is slightly more annoying. About once a month it will overheat, no logs, no notifications, nothing to tell me what happened. It'll just lock up and all of my PoE devices will crash. It's currently 68 degrees and it still overheats. SFP is plain unusable because the SFP modules will cause the overheating faster. I can get about 12 hours of use before a lockup. Don't buy this one, just buy something else. Terrible UI product, very disappointing they'd call this "enterprise" quality"

This is advertised as a Enterprise switch. Ubiquiti's support is NOT Enterprise. Support is difficult to reach and then it is chat only - they don't even have remote desktop ro screen share to help you with the issue. I chatted with Support 3 different times to help me setup this switch due to VLAN issues we were having and the support techs were unable to help. They obviously read from a script as the tech said things to me that did not answer my question at all. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that they do not have supervisor on call for support. I am nto sure what the issue is with this switch and configuring to use with OTHER wifi antennas. It kept stripping the VLAN and then no one could access the internet. Also, one port on the swicth was not working at all, never could get it to recognize any of the cables we plugged in. Support kept saying to try different cables. Do not invest in Ubiquiti's devices for your enterprise network.
