OPEN BOX - Crucial T700 M.2 2 TB PCI Express 5.0 NVMe

The test in the picture was run on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero motherboard with a Ryzen 7950x CPU with no tweaking, just stock Windows 10. That motherboard has two NVMe Gen 5 slots, and I have been waiting for the prices to come down. Amazon had the 4 TB drive on sale for Prime Day for a few bucks over $100/TB. If you have to do any task which is requires sequential reads or writes, like video editing, this is the drive for you as long as your motherboard supports Gen 5. I am a game developer, and on my Gen 4 NVMe drive (same motherboard/CPU combo), compiling the Unreal engine from source takes about 52-53 minutes. On this drive, it took 31 minutes. A full compile of my game on the Gen 4 drive takes 27-28 minutes. On this drive, 12 minutes. I will pay for it with my productivity boost in less than a week. Don't buy this drive if your motherboard doesn't support PCIe 5.0 and NVMe Gen 5. You need the PCIe lanes in excess of what the GPU needs to push it to its full potential.

I purchased a new computer and it only came with a single 1TB SSD.. Considering I'm a massive gamer I knew immediately it was going to be an issue.. I settled on an External drive with a fair bit of memory 8 TB's and that filled my needs for a while, but I noticed that some games had stuttering and lag, which considering the specs on my system shouldn't have been happening.. RTX4090, 64 GB of ram, etc etc etc etc.. So I narrowed down the likely causes to the External HDD, so I knew I needed to remedy that situation asap.. After searching around I settled on the Crucial T700,, highly rated, and reviewed.. The price is hefty but gaming isn't a cheap hobby, if you want to play like a pro, you gotta pay like a pro.. The install was super easy, plug and play pretty much, the only issue arose from trying to format the drive for use.. after a half hour and numerous youtube videos I discovered that I had forgotten to name the drive, after feeling like an idiot, I had my harddrive installed and ready to roll.. Download speeds have never been faster, I've always had issues with steam download times, normally stuff that my internet speeds should have done in minutes would take an hour or more, with the Crucial it's down to taking minutes again.. I honestly couldn't be happier with this product.. If had another slot on my board I'd pick up another and never have to worry about uninstalling and installing games again.. Extremely happy with this purchase..

I feel like we need to be clear about these high-end products and manage expectations a bit. Sometimes the marketing can lead one to believe you're getting more than you are in terms of real-world performance. To be fair, Crucial does deliver on their claims. This is a fantastic product, in that it is reliable, well made, and technically faster than last gen. That being said, unless your use case is one in which you're reading and writing gigantic files, you're not going to see the benefit of gen 5 vs gen 4 in "practical" use. Most reads and writes are not sequential, and as such, you're not going to feel the speed. Just launching into various apps and games, you won't feel the difference at all. The potential difference between load times is within margin of error for the most part. To use a car analogy, non-sequential reads is like having a Bugatti that goes 200+ miles per hour, so you floor it coming off a stop light hoping to go fast. But the next stop light is 100 yards away. You can go pretty fast in that amount of time, because it's still a super fast car, but there's not enough room to reach top speed. Compared to a Corolla (spinning platter HDD), it's night and day. Compared to Lamborghini (gen 4 M.2), there might not be enough difference to make a difference. The are real world applications to these drives, to be sure. Mostly in the productivity and server space, though. Navigating the internet and loading games is not it, in my opinion. But with that said, if you're the kind of person who just wants to latest and best because it's available, go for it. That's what I did. I use this as my C drive with the OS on it, because why not? Theoretically, there's some speed increase to be had there, even if it's hardly noticeable.

Nothing to dislike, delivers the promised speed when attached to pcie gen5.
