it looks awesome. it works pretty good too. I would say though that this is at about 85% of the capability that the windows based version has. it feels quite a bit older than office 2013 for windows too. In word things like the styles/theme menu (which on windows is very simple and easy to use) on the mac is the same way it was back in like 2005, with the panel on the right side. control of the header and body fonts is none existent, whereas in windows there is a menu where you can customise and create your own font selection. overall, i think it does all the same stuff, but the ease of customizing and utilitzing those functions on the mac is a lot more difficult in word. excel is very close to the same as on windows. a few of the menus are a bit different, the layout and where all the functions are. doesn't really make sense to me. but overall, its very easy to use. there are a few major things i don't like on mac vs on windows though, starting with the fact that the gridlines on mac are a lot heavier than the now subtle lines on windows. i do not understand why this is so, especially considering the retina screen is seriously better than almost all windows based laptops out there at the moment. another thing i don't like, which i also don't understand is the fact that when you enlarge column width or row height manually (using the cursor to "drag" it larger), the pop-up displays pixel/point values. however, when you right click it and go into the "row height" or "column width" menu/screens, it comes up as mm, inches or centimeters, and pixel/point is not an option. that functionality is in the program already or it wouldn't come up at all, so why they have taken this out i have no idea - its crazy. the other thing i don't like about office on mac (vs windows) is the display size seems a bit weird. its like you are either zoomed in too much or zoomed out too much. on windows the natural or basic setting is just right for the monitor, on mac it doesn't look as good - which again, given the superior monitor and identical-ish hardware on the mac, is very strange. although i don't use powerpoint as much now that i've finished at uni, powerpoint on mac does look and feel very good compared to the windows based version. all the main functionalities are there, and easily accessible. again the ribbon toolbar layout is different than windows based for some reason, but its still very user friendly, straight-forward and easy to use. having used word and excel on windows extensively, then moving to mac, i get the feeling that microsoft doesn't allow the full functionality on the mac that it does on windows, because its not running on their os. i cannot believe that a software company full of the kinds of amazing coders that microsoft has, is not able to create a mac version of their office system which is identical to their windows based version. i don't believe it for a second - adobe does it, so it is i possible. i never use onenote so i don't know how that holds up in comparison. outlook ins't included with this package, which is a shame because it looks brilliant - but i knew that when i ordered this. (thunderbird is a good alternative for outlook though, just a lot simpler, but therefore a bit faster once loaded with emails) i get the feeling they've let the mac version lag behind the windows version to punish mac users for not having windows, and i get the feeling excel is the program closest to the windows based version because they could not get away without making that work properly.
