Lexar Professional NM800PRO M.2 2 TB PCI Express 4.0 3D TLC NVMe

I'm using this in a motherboard from 2014/15, so the PCIe is only 3.0. That said, this is significantly faster than a SATA ssd. I have only had it for a week, but I have noticed it works well. I'll continue to update the review as I have more experience with the drive. It does work in Linux (6.5.8-arch1-1) for me.

At some point, the difference between fast and fastest disappears. It wasn't too long ago that Western Digital Black mechanical drives were cherished for there "amazing" read/write speeds. Then SSDs came around and a 550mbps speed seemed amazing. It didn't take long for direct to bus PCIe drives made it seem like, at almost 10x the speed of SATA SSDs, these devices were untouchable. Now, in the area of 2TB PCIe 4 devices with speeds of 7000mbps selling for less than $150, it seems absurd that one can double the storage to 4TB for only about $30. While it has been my experience that the current PCIe 4 Western Digital Black NMVe devices perform marginally faster than this Lexar, for the cost difference, the there really is no comparison.

I use this drive as my primary boots into Linux. It has been very useful and helpful so far and the speeds are ludicrous on this. Overall I would highly recommend it to get it on sale as it is quite useful drive for various needs.

I have a nice gaming computer with an AMD 5800x CPU, 32GB RAM and RTX 3080 video card. Before installing the Lexar NM 790 2TB, I had no issues. After installing the Lexar drive, I started getting blue screens when I was stressing the computer. I removed the Lexar and put a better heat sink on it. The one I had originally put on it was a very thin, cheap one. After putting the better heat-sink on it, the blue screens stopped. When the computer was blue screening, the Lexar was hitting 65C and warmer. With the better heat-sink, my temps are 59C and below.
