HTC Vive Controller (2018) - Controller 2018 Edition

Absolutely trash, both controllers looked damn good just before I started to play my games, oh yes some parts worked such as the trigger, menu and system buttons, HOWEVER once of the essentials sucked extremely bad, not allowed to walk forward backwards, turn left or right, and the only reason I bought these controllers is because of how damn long the other ones take to arrive, and I guess I have to buy those, since whoever designed these ones needs to be fired, absolute trash, 2 of them bought and two of them not working after calibration and pairing, and likely won’t get a refund unless sending them back in the package with damn plastics or some bullcrap, and here I thought HTC had the best controllers due to having a controller with almost no stick drift, doesn’t account for bad workers and testing.

People often try to compare Oculus and Vive to each other in terms of qualities. Generally a lot of qualities Oculus doesn't have, Vive does and vice versa. Well I can safely assure you, Oculus has the better controllers. The Vive wand controllers are generally kind of unwieldly and difficult to get used to and the lack of buttons and emphasis on motion control's only worsens that. If you still want to get a Vive despite this, I'd advise saving up for Valve Knuckles or getting a Vive Cosmos. (DO NOT get the Vive Cosmos Elite though as it doesn't recognize regular Vive Cosmos controllers for some dumb reason.)

Personally I like the Wand design over the current "occulus-like" standard so I don't have any complaints there. It's good to see that HTC still makes these lovely abominations. However, as I bought this to replace a 2016 model wand (black), I can't help but feel like the battery life is significantly shorter than its predecesor. For example, I charged both controllers and after a day of use, the original 2016 model is sitting at a confortable 56% battery, while the 2018 model is already at 15%. I suppose its those Lighthouse 2.0 compliant receptors but frankly I have no idea. Still, the controller is perfectly usable, just remember to charge it after every session if you play for more than 3 hours daily.

No finger tracking aside from the touchpad. Besides that it’s a great controller. Just make sure you have your base stations setup properly for decent tracking
