Alright.

Super awkward shape for the sub, not much better for the mains. Very muffled sound, if I wasn’t able to tune with an EQ in Windows I’d of sent em back. Play loud and clear though!

Nice sound; Bass heavy; Lacking fine control

The unit is connected to a computer. The set looks very nice. Especially the Subwoofer. The glossy black and curves that are futuristic. You would want to be display the Sub instead of hiding in a corner. The two satellite speakers produce clean mid-range sound and high notes. The bass is powerful. And here lies the issue. It can be too much. The Sub unit has no separate control, so all you have is the default full blast no matter what the source sound is. Every scene in a movie is accompanied by some low rumbling. When listening to music, the high and mid notes are round but also a bit muffled, often overpowered by the bass. You might be able using with EQ software to tone down it a bit, but not by much. The Sub unit seems to have only two stages: on or off. I found myself kept trying to fiddle but unable to find a good balance. I am quite disappointed. The omission of separate control for Sub unit seems an easily avoidable mistake. Design: **** Sound: *** Control: *** (on/off, volume +/-, Bluetooth pairing. Again, lack of separate control for Sub unit.

A Second Opinion

I'm not one of those rich YouTubers who has the resources to buy whatever products they want to review(most of them actually just get it for free straight from the manufacturer - a small compromise for free advertising to make the company tens of thousands back in return, if not more). But my appetite to own electronic gadgets is just as unsatiatiable, if not more than, as theirs. So the short version is I buy used or refurbished/renewed/reconditioned electronics, and if I like them, I'll come on here and give you an everyman's perspective on them. I found out about this Edifier system from a tech article, so I researched both the speakers and the company. In a nutshell, Edifier is like the Xiaomi of phones, the TCL of TVs, the Asus of laptops - non-descript manufacturers that make pretty decent quality products at low prices. Now, to be completely honest, because of the lack of their brand recognition, this system at $150 - is that worth it? Just add $50 and you can get a set of Harman Kardon Soundsticks III, which is a world-famous brand, and excellent audio quality. So for me, that is not worth it. However, I got these at a pretty much like-new condition for $40, just missing the retail box. I'm not sure if it was a price error, but $150 new and $40 used in mint condition is a huge gap, and at $40, these speakers are an absolute steal. The sound is very good - not as good as the SoundSticks, which has a bunch of tweeters and can output highs very nicely. The sound on the Edifier has good, warm mids, and lows are a bit muted, but still strong - 30 watts RMS. I think if you're a gamer, these are for you, since you don't need a neutral-sounding(for audiophiles) or glass-shattering system(for movie buffs). It's just a good computer-speaker system. Because let's face it, the looks are what you bought it for. If the Soundsticks are to Apple, then these Edifiers represent a PC gamer. So if you can find these speakers for below $100, that is a much better value.

A potentially great product, ruined by obnoxious decisions

I'm a form and function guy, and this Edifier Prisma Encore speaker set is the only one that met my needs. The packaging is great, build quality is great, the design looks really nice and theoretically the sound should sound really good too...unfortunately, they've made several choices that leaves a lot to be desired. First the basics, the woofer is there but if you look at its specs the frequency response starts at 60Hz, which means some of the really low end bass - the one that vibrates the desk & walls just isn't there. While I'm not a fan of loud wall shaking woofer systems, I do like to enjoy low end bass when I'm watching a movie and the subwoofer in this just won't do it. Then there is this really horrible idea to remove the bass control knob from the subwoofer altogether (WHY? ironically, its present on the cheaper 2.1 system ). What this means is that you don't get the low end bass and the punchy beat that you do get, you pretty much get ALL of it, ALL the time! To top of it off, the system itself is pretty flat, so unless you like listening to flat music, you probably need some sort of EQ adjustment. Luckily I was able to find an EQ option in my computer's audio control panel and fine tune it to my likening...but that obviously doesn't fix the bass issue. Lastly, the cables that attach the subwoofer to the speakers are too short. They are so short, in fact, that I have to place the subwoofer between the center of the speakers. Plan to spend extra couple of bucks on a longer set of speaker wires. If anyone from Edifier is reading this. Please make the subwoofer an inch larger, use a speaker that maybe starts at 30-40Hz, add the bass and treble controls, make the speaker wires a bit longer, add volume control to the back of one of the speakers (so that it's more & easily accessible) and then you'll have a winning speaker system. Design-wise you already have an amazing product just need to polish out a few issues.
