D-Link Vigilance 4 Outdoor PoE Dome Security Camera, H.265, IP66, IK10, Motion Detection & Night Vision, Business Home Surveillance Network System (DCS-4614EK)

I am an owner of several D-Link security cameras spanning 15 model years. This model has been my latest purchase. It has many of the things you would expect of D-Link products (both the good and the bad), but I find that it is missing some features that at least one other model (to my knowledge, but probably more) has. Most importantly to me is the absence of the ability to directly export recorded video files to an external storage place. The model allows you to have triggered exports/notifications including image files (like most D-Link models), but not video files. To view recorded video files, such as the regular, ongoing variety, you must use a web browser. This brings me to my second complaint, which has been a complaint of mine against D-Link for a long time. You MUST use Microsoft Internet Explorer to correctly and completely view the camera's built-in web server pages. Other browsers either work partly or not at all with this camera's web server. In this day and age where Internet Explorer is a name associated with the Internet a decade or more ago, D-Link still develops around this browser exclusively. Microsoft has even been asking people to avoid it for years. For those that may not understand the significance of this requirement, it is beyond unacceptable because Internet technology outgrew this browser from the 1990's a LONG time ago. There is literally no other viable way to view the camera's self-made recordings. Please note that the regular recordings by the camera must be stored to the on-board micro SD card alone. The memory card's data is not accessible externally except by Internet Explorer (that is, no FTP access to the memory, no SSH access to my knowledge, no SMB access, etc.) For organizations who may have the hardware to run a dedicated camera monitoring server to externally record the camera's video feed, this is one way around the requirements. For this reason alone, I would still include this model as an acceptable option for small organizations. On the more positive side of things, despite antiquated requirements, the firmware is generally reliable. The image quality is more than acceptable. Night visibility via infrared is also acceptable, although I have not mounted this camera for outside viewing yet. Power-over-Ethernet is always a welcome feature, though you can power the camera directly, too. The camera's housing and hardware look very well made to me. I just don't know if its limitations are a deal-breaker for me because of my personal home's network infrastructure. I may return it.
