Yes, there are cheaper ink cartridges advertised just about everywhere you look, but this is a case where you really do get what you pay for. I have tried other inks over the years and end up ruining a perfectly good printer because the cheap ink really wasn't compatible with the printer. These factory original cartridges just work like they are supposed to and are worth the extra money.

works well but doesn't seem to play well with windows 8 and windows 10 yet.

I purchased the 870 and all it did was paper jam, finally I got a warning there was a jam in the front and rear, there was no paper jammed at all and I couldnt get rid of the warning and it wouldnt print. I sent it back to amazon and got another 870 that was obviously opened and had been removed from the original box, I sent that one back for refund and bought the 875, they are both identical, except. The 875 prints slower than the 870 but it doesnt jam paper or spit out extra sheets everytime you print something. So far its been fine.

After several bad experiences with disposable printers, I think we've found a keeper. The printer works great, was easy to set-up, and prints very well in dual side mode. The ink for the Brother is reasonably priced and is very easy to change. Lastly, the printer is super easy to program (sleep mode timer, draft print mode, etc...) but most importantly, it works great. After HP, Lexmark, and one other I can't remember, I'm sold on the Brother!
