Connecting is horrible

Never got a chance to use the item. Could not get it to connect to a network. (Wireless nor ethernet) Returned immediately. Tiny digital screen. Buy something else.

Simple Home Printer

Brother HL-L2460DW This is a great printer for home use or a small office that doesn't require frequent printing. It's fast, it's about as small as I can imagine is possible for a laser printer, and it's inexpensive. I thought setup was easy. I'm fairly skilled at setting up home electronics though. The setup guide recommended a mobile app to speed up connecting to your wifi network. It was pretty straightforward to go through the steps that got me connected, and I was able to setup my Windows PC in a few minutes too. I think that from unboxing to my first test print page was about twenty minutes, but at least half of that time was doing the unpacking, pulling off a few pieces of shipping tape, looking at the setup guide, inserting the toner cartridge and plugging the printer into the outlet. What I did not like about the process is that Brother is now way more aggressive than I recall them being from my past experiences with their printers to get you to opt into refill service subscriptions, marketing email, etc. My printer offered a free trial to the subscription but I didn't accept. Refusing these services wasn't hard, but something I didn't appreciate is that the program that Brother has to manage my printer from my PC has given me a few pop-ups begging me to subscribe. The software doesn't seem to accept that no means no, stop asking. I got one pop-up window a day or two after installation, and another several days later. To me, any number of pop-ups at all is unacceptable, and that's why I rate this printer at 4 stars instead of 5. It's a minor annoyance, but Brother has enabled this annoying "feature" on purpose. They could have done nothing but instead went out of their way to have the software pester the user. The print speed is excellent for a home printer. Our printer is located two rooms away from my computer, and if I print a page it is waiting for me by the time I arrive at the printer, even if I start walking immediately after hitting the print button. The wireless has so far been reliable. I have good signal strength everywhere in my home, so I can't comment on a scenario where you have a weaker connection. I really like to print double-sided. I have only printed about 50 pages so far. I haven't had a paperjam or misfeed of the paper yet. That's not a testament, because the real test is how it does in the long run when the moving parts of the printer could begin to wear down, but at least when it's new it works well. I will try to remember to update this in a year or so if there's a change.

Much Improved!

I've had quite a few Brother printers and sometimes I've been a bit disappointed with some of their earlier models. This newer one is a pretty big improvement from previous ones I've had. The setup was so much easier, and mostly because I made sure to connect it to my PC before using it. I've made the mistake in the past of not doing that and the setup was frustrating! So make sure to do it! I love the speed of the printer job, which is important with how much printing I have to do for my job. My only one hang up is that the print quality is not as great as I thought it would be. There is a little discrepancy with the darker colors making the print job a little more blurry. But overall, I think this printer is good and I enjoy it!

Fast! And loved it instantly !

Seriously hate buying printers and had to go through an HP annoyance before getting this one. It was an instant relief once connected and noticed how fast processing -print was!

Prints from the main tray well at least

Let's break this down. Setup: This is weird. It refused to work from my Windows computer. It just failed and failed via the linked software. Then I tried just using my phone, it succeeded by failing. I managed to connect to it and connect it to my internet, but it kept telling me that it failed to add the printer to my app, even though it did add the printer. When I checked my computer, I could easily add the printer now that I already added it to my network via my phone. Well, whatever, it works now on both my phone and my computers. To add the toner cartridge, just remember to remove the orange stuff. If you try to shove it in there with that on, it probably won't fit, and it definitely won't work if you do manage to get it in there. Installing the toner cartridge isn't much more difficult than loading a VHS if you're old enough to remember that kind of thing. Using the printer: First off, you open the main printer tray from the front of the printer. If you've never used a printer like this, and the documentation is confusing you, there's a huge tray inside where you put the paper. The little tray on the outside is for doing one page at a time and will just jam if you put more than one page. You basically pull the whole front of the printer off, and take the whole bottom out, and you'll see a big tray in there. It prints great from that. The manual tray is not so great. I tried printing on a regular sheet of paper from that, and it printed sideways. I tried holding it as straight as I could as it took it, and it printed sideways. I tried and tried and it just kept printing crooked. I then tried an envelope and it did print straight on that, but it also bent the envelope almost too badly to use. It was just your basic #10 envelope and I was using the envelope tool on Word. If you are using the main tray, this works great. It does take a bit to think about it, but once it starts printing, it prints very quickly. For day to day use, this is definitely a good printer. Things get rather annoying when you use the manual tray though. I would have been quite happy with this printer if I had it when I was in college instead of an old inkjet that I fought with nearly every day. If your home office prints envelopes, I'm not sure about this though. I got it to work, but it seems to have issues not damaging envelopes.
