This is a pain in the butt type of purchase made a little bit more palatable by the fact that you get it for a great price. A printer's drum unit will deteriorate over time and your Brother printer will prompt you to replace after printing a certain number of pages whether you need to or not. By the way, you can reset the counter through the menu system to get rid of the message so if your drum unit is still functional, you may want to go this route. My printing was deteriorating severely so I know that I really did need a new drum unit. It was easy to replace. Remove the cartridges, and pull the drum unit out. There is a lever on the left side that you have to engage to release the unit. Do it in reverse to replace. The process takes only a couple of minutes. This drum unit is OEM. I noticed that someone said otherwise. It came exactly as pictured in original Brother packaging.
