I wanted a home server that runs 24/7, without a fan for silence, and that uses very little electricity. I also want a computer from a company I trust, and one that would allow me to replace memory or the disk as needed (nothing soldered in). I'm running Ubuntu server (no GUI), which installed with no problems. Having two network interfaces made it easy to monitor the private network and the IoT network with Nagios. With Samba I have a simple NAS for sharing files. With rsyslog I can receive syslog messages from Syncback Pro and know if any of the the Windows PC's are having problems with their backups. The PN42 does all this with virtually no load on the system. Not sure how it would work as a desktop system, but it works well for a simple server monitoring a home network and providing NAS services.

Installed Fedora 38 Linux today, on a Samsung 980 500G NVME drive. Something was wrong with my Fedora Live USB for version 38, but when I tried an old live USB with Fedora 35, that worked, so I installed that and upgraded from there to the current Fedora 38. I also installed a 32G DDR4 3200 dimm, even though Intel claims that the N100 only supports 16G. We will have to see whether this is stable. Performance is a big step up from six-year-old Liva Z, which uses an Apollo Lake processor.
