Aluratek AEOD100F USB 2.0 Ext DVD Writer

Most laptops come without internal drives - to keep the weight and size down. Used this drive for my daughter who needs to create media discs for school - otherwise we'd just use jumpdrives/usb sticks. The price fitted my budget - plug and play. Other drives were more expensive...almost twice the price!

Only used once but set up was easy and reader/writer worked great.

This little writer is fairly light-duty, but it's a good, inexpensive back-up writer. It has occasionally failed to read a disc, but I have had that problem, too, with my more expensive LaCie.

I am sure this product is fine but I have a mac. I was instructed to go to the mac site to get download instructions but I could not find anything. I was disappointed so I returned the item. I wish the advertising for the item specified that it was pc only. The service from Amazon and the seller, however, was very good.

The drive worked the first time it was plugged in. Have used it, both to read and burn on mutliple systems, and had no troubles. The only negative, if it can be called that, is the dongle/cable is a bit odd to work with, but since it saves hauling a wall wort around, I'll gladly take the swap. Oh, and being a bit of a cheap skate, it is a tad pricey, but oh well.
