Paired with an approved Western Digital 2TB SSD the sustained transfer rates are 90+ MB/sec. Its built in OS that allows installation of other software/features is really nice. The auto backup utility (downloadable) and attached USB storage is also good enough to use it as a single drive file server. I have not tried the other features, but certainly think it adequate for use for my, and my church's file server needs, with auto backup. I was disappointed that it did not come with a simple plastic adapter to hold an SSD in place - really Synology, not including a 5 cent part and wanting to charge up to 5 bucks and requiring one ordering it - pure BS & customer backlash. I used some tape to hold down my SSD. The user interface is okay. Be patient if you've used an older file server; especially regarding password requirements for users. With the backup utility that can daily write to a connected USB drive, why bother with a dual drive, RAID 1, unit? For home use the higher performance processor and greater memory with their 2 bay unit is likely not needed, unless maybe you're doing a lot of netcam stuff - not sure about that support. If things change in the future I'll update this review. Other than the lack of an SSD adapter, it's an excellent buy.

I think it is getting necessary for these days digital life, very easy to use and excellent quality.
