Not Better Than My Ring Cameras

This is very much similar to Ring's cameras however, this is not for me. Here are my final thoughts; PROS - Design is sleek and minimal - Very easy to use and install - Magnetic is very strong CONS - Video quality is not great compared to my Ring Cameras - 2 way talk is not great compared to my Ring Cameras - This requires a monthly subscription just like Ring. This is only a CON if you are using another security system. CONCLUSION I removed 1 star due to video and audio quality and another star due to the monthly subscription. I cannot recommend this.

Great Addition to a Philips Hue System

I was lucky enough to come across the Philips Hue Camera a few weeks ago. I thought "Hey, I've got Hue lights, why not add Hue Cameras?". And, I must admit, there were some really exciting moments when it arrived. Overall, it's a decent setup, and it works with the Hue bulbs as well, but I did encounter a few challenges. Challenges - Setup - My initial setup was less than pleasant. I'm working on the camera less than 3 ft from the wireless AP. Yet, I had multiple problems getting it connected and operational. It took me four attempts -- completely resetting and trying again -- before I finally got it connected and downloading updates. Speaking of which, updates are forced when you first connect it, so that was a bit frustrating as well. - Installation - The installation part wasn't too hard to do; however, the camera is connected to the base magnetically. Once installed and aligned, I walked away. However, I've got concerns that a decent storm may knock it down. That or an overzealous neighbor who thinks she owns the neighborhood... - Pricing for Service - So I can use the Hue camera for live feeds without any issues. But, if I want to retain video, I now have to pay additional monthly or annual fees. Not the happiest moment of realization. All of the negatives aside, I was pretty happy with how clear the camera video is, how easy it is to navigate, and how smoothly it operates. I'm still looking into how to easily get the camera to turn lights on, but I've got time for that. Overall, I'm happy with the end product, but less pleased with how I got there, and how much a recurring subscription would cost if I wanted to retain video. I'm also a bit surprised at the normal price tag for the camera with so many others out there. But, if the integration to the Hue bulbs works properly, at least that's a positive that otherwise wouldn't exist. I would strongly consider getting another camera, but even more so if the retaining video cost wasn't a factor.

Great picture quality and app functionality

I already own other Philips hue products, so this security camera was very easy for me to set up within the hue app. It is very similar in form and function compared with a Nest security camera by Google. The night vision is slightly better on this camera though compared to the Nest in my opinion. One odd choice that I do have to point out though is the mounting system. The camera mounts via a strong magnet to the base that is secured to your wall (whether interior or exterior). The issue is that the camera can easily be pulled off of the mount if it is not placed high enough away from would-be do-no-gooders. For me, this is not really and issue as I have mounted mine on an exterior wall very close to the overhang from my roof. You would need a tall ladder to dislodge the camera from it's base (and that is operating under the assumption that the do-no-gooders knows what they're looking at). The power cable goes through the wall and does not run down the outside of my house. So, do keep in mind that installation is key with the way this is mounted. If you want the camera to be secure, you'll have to make sure to do so. At $200 this camera is pricey BUT, crucially, you do get what you pay for in most cases. Philips is a reputable brand so I expect this thing to stand up to tough weather conditions outdoors, summer and winter. The build quality is good and I don't forsee having any issues with this in the future. I would like to see more future products released under the Philips hue label and look forward to getting a chance to test more of them. 4.5/5

Great camera, confusing concept - HOMEKIT users, be aware.

So, I have the Hue App and eco system and overall love the product. But this camera gives me lots of questions. One. Hue is known for integrated into HomeKit. It was one of the first HomeKit lines and that's what got me into this product. You do need the hub, which honestly, is the biggest disadvantage of this line. But its a good line and a good app However, this camera Is not compatible with HomeKit and that is a major buzzkill for me. It makes no sense to have so many products intertwined with that and then NOT provide that support. I already pay for the iCloud storage with my other cameras and now with this camera, to use it, I need a new subscription. It would be much more beneficial to just give it HomeKit compatibility. These cameras already cost so much more than HomeKit compatible competition. Why isolate a large and loyal customer base? I use cameras as part of my HomeKit to get notifications for all the other features of HomeKit I use...like window and door sensors to notify me when my doors or windows are opened and members of my home aren't home. Or motion detection to turn on my lights. Now with just the Hue app, I'm limited to just my Hue lights. That makes zero sense and less user friendly than competition cameras. Also those other cameras allow notifications on my tv screen to outside settings I have. This camera not being HomeKit friendly removes that feature and is a disadvantage. And again, price point. I can get a HomeKit indoor camera for $35 versus a $200 camera here. The other thing I don't understand is the mounting. It's got a base you screw in and mount. Cool. The camera has a magnetic power cable. It's nice to not plug it in as it is more user friendly but it's easy to unhook. But what confuses me the most is the camera attachment to the base. It's a strong magnet. A magnet. It's the EASIEST TO STEAL camera! The cord isn't the longest so I can't run it up 12 feet and over 7 feet out of easy reach of a basic ladder. So I have to put it up against an easy to prop a ladder against a building spot and just use a big tug and it will come off the base. And just pull the plug and bam, no working camera. IDK who thought this design was a good idea for an OUTDOOR camera. It's crazy to think that! I use it inside. And because the camera is so good, when the window shows the reflection of people inside, I get a notification. That's a bit tedious and doesn't help sell the camera to me. Due to it being inside also, the night vision light reflects back and I can't even see out my window, so the feature isn't even something I can enjoy or use. The arming and disarming is a nice feature but as I can't utilize my whole smart home due to app limitations, I am not sure of its purpose. The picture quality is good. The zone alarms are more user friendly than other zone alarm settings have been. I like the concept but Hue kind of made this camera very unusable for these reasons. I want to love it, I really do, but the flaws aren't easy ones to disregard. I would not expand my security cameras with this line. A better secure and anchored camera to the base, and Homekit integration would make it a serious contender. If you don't use iCloud and Homekit and you're already in this ecosystem, it's an absolute win. It just is not for me.
