Speed is great, but frequent disconnects

I've been using this dock (Kensington Thunderbolt 5 - SD5000T5) for a few months and it's been really fast. I have a usb mouse and an audio interface connected via usb-a ports, and just a thunderbolt 5 host connection going to my M4 Max MacBook Pro - yes, I've tested several thunderbolt 5 cables of high quality. The usb devices both disconnect randomly - sometimes every 30 minutes during a work session, and sometimes they don't all day. This could be the host thunderbolt connection or it could be the usb bus on the dock. I suppose it could also be the port on my MacBook Pro, but that's pretty unlikely. Not a good experience.

Works, not much competition at time of review

This works pretty well. I have only tried it with two monitors attached so I am not sure about how 3 monitors will work on an M4 MacBook Pro. When I bought this it was the only ThunderBolt 5 dock on the market and I wasn't going to get TB4. The only issue I have had is that items attached to a 10-port hub attached to this dock don't always work perfectly. I'm not sure if that is a Mac-related issue or the dock. I have not had any glitches with my monitors which I use very regularly. The design is good overall, and I actually prefer the "in" port being on the front, although some people do not. What I wish for: *Additional TB/USB-C and USB-A ports on front - this should replace hubs especially for USB-C. *Audio with S/PDIF out *NVMe slot internally

Love the speed and easy setup of this Thunderbolt 5 dock

I recently upgraded to a new M4 Pro MBP with TB5, so wanted a dock that would match and fully enable this new capability. The Kensington was a perfect fit. I also bought some new cables that support USB-C to HDMI (my previous dock had built-in HDMI ports) and got ones that would support 8K displays (prepping for the future). I didn't expect it to be so easy, I: 1) Removed DisplayLink from the Mac (which my previous dock required to support 2 displays) 2) Powered down 3) Hooked everything up with the new dock, including my TB4 backup device, the 2 displays, and some other USB gear. 4) Powered up - told the Mac to allow the new accessory - and it just worked! Perfect, right out of the box as one would expect - except I've learned not to expect that from the higher end of the TB world. So I couldn't be happier. Also, the network interface is now connected at 2.5 gigabits, and as I now do a large file transfer between a local SSD and one on the network (a Synology RAID), it's transferring 260 GB in about 45 minutes, much faster than what I was getting before. Well worth it if you have use cases similar to mine.

Plug & Play as advertised. Works Well. Beware: Design may be a problem for you.

Pro's: 1) I had zero issues in setting up the docking station for my Macbook Pro M4 MAX and my 2 6k displays. Set up was a breeze and my equipment fired up immediately. No drivers or firmware to install. 2) Set up included 2g speed via ethernet cable. All good, no drops. Ditto with wifi speeds at same speeds. 3) I had none of the drops or disconnects that others were referring to. Doc worked beautifully. 4) Docking station is well built, sturdy & premium device. 5) SD Card reader worked with no issues. Other Considerations: 1) The host port to connect docking station to laptop is built in the front of the docking station. So you have cables running from front and back of the device. (The back includes 2 USB-C ports/cables to 2 displays and 1 power cord + 1 ethernet cable). So I either have to leave the docking station octopus mess on top of my desk or buy longer cables and place it on the floor (which offers no easy access to SD Card Reader) - - both not exciting options. For $390 plus tax, I would have expected a cleaner cable design for users. 2) There is no CFexpress Card Type B Card reader. 3) You may need to factor in the cost of two or three USB-C Thunderbolt 5 cables which depending on length can range from $27-$70 each. (Product comes with one 3 meter cable)

Only two displays work for me with M4 Max Macbook Pro

I am very disappointed but don't want to give less than 4 stars because I don't know if the dock is causing the issue or if it is something else. I have three Dell U2723QE monitors connected to this dock with USB C and only two will work at a time. I've tried using USB C to Thunderbolt cables on all three instead and it is the same result. I tried Kensington support and Apple support and neither of them could give me any ideas that worked. The screens are 4k 60hz but they still don't work at lower settings. The only way I am able to get my three screens to work with this dock and the MacBook Pro M4 Max is to have one of the screens plugged directly into the Mac. Somewhat defeats the purpose of the dock and I could have done that with one that costs half as much. I'm hoping a firmware update or something comes out to resolve this issue but for now it is about a 3 star product. I just didn't want to do that and then forget to change the review if they resolve this issue, so I'm going with 4 for now. If you have a solution for my issue, please let me know.
