GUNNAR - Premium Blue Light Blocking Glasses - Strata Collection - Gaming and Computer Glasses Palomar Amber Tint

I just received my blue light blocking glasses, the Gunnar Pismo amber tinted, Strata Collection. Many years ago I had purchased a pair of low magnification, tinted “computer glasses” at a local office supply store. This is when I was working as an engineer and was using my laptop many hours a day. I felt they eased my eye strain and made the screen easier to view. They were cheap frames and lens and the frames broke quickly. I did not bother replacing them. Now that I’m retired but still use my laptop for a few hours a day and do not require magnification lens (eye surgery corrected my vision) I was still feeling eye pain after viewing my laptop screen for a couple of hours. Easy solution, stop viewing your phone screen and or computer screen especially right before bedtime. Realistically that’s not going to happen. There are other issues with blue light that go beyond eye discomfort. Reading articles about the effects of exposure to computer/phone screens and their blue light emission: “Blue light suppresses melatonin production, the hormone that naturally summons sleep, Blue light alters our circadian rhythm, which can impact our cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive, and immune health over time. Chronically being overexposed to blue light could even lead to development of age-related macular degeneration”. My wife was just diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration. Her working career required computers and now retirement exposes her to computer screens also. So now we both decided to do something about blue light exposure. We both purchased Gunnar blue light blocking, Strata Collection glasses. We both use them when using our computers and cell phones. We also limit our time on these devices right before bedtime. The frames seem sturdy, this is probably why they cost what they do, it’s the first thing that will break on glasses, but they are thin to keep the glasses light weight. I hope they hold up. The hard case is good for storage and protection. They do help with eye strain which leads to eye pain. The amber tint lens are optically good, Gunnar says the amber tint will filter out 65% of the blue light. That’s why we bought them. I would recommend the amber tint lens for using computers and if you spend a lot of time on smartphones. I really hope they work as advertised and they hold up to use. So far (2 weeks) so good.

Dopo aver cercato a lungo un paio di occhiali anti luce blu, sono approdato su questo marchio con un'ottima reputazizone. Le lenti hanno una certificazione e ci sono di diverse gradazioni di filtro, dal 10% al 65 %, sia lenti chiare che ambrate. La costruzione è ottima, metallo per la montatura con cerniere a molla e lenti antiriflesso sia esteriormente che interiormente. Ora veniamo al dunque del perchè ho messo 4 stelle e non 5. Avevo visto un video di un ottico americano che diceva che le lenti gunnar hanno una funzione chiamata focus che significa che hanno tutte lo 0,2 di diottria in più. Questo serve ad ingrandire leggermente per la lettura da vicino, sia tablet, smartphone che pc, ma non ottimali per la tv se a più di due metri. Lo 0,2 di diottria in più può dare all'inizio una strana sensazione, ma ci vogliono almeno 5/6 giorni per abituarsi ad una visione ottimale. Nel mio caso che sono leggermente miope non noto differenza da vicino, ma per la tv che ho a 3 metri vedo più sfuocato e non è solo per le lenti ambrate che personamente adoro e non cambiano troppo i colori come certe lenti rossicce. Però questa cosa dello 0,2 in più l'ho scoperta da un video e poi ho chiesto chiarimenti al venditore che mi ha confermato che tutte le loro lenti hanno lo 0,2 in più. Peccato che non sia specificato bene sul loro sito e zero assoluto su amazon. In pratica Gunnar che è ottima non ti permette una scelta se con lo 0,2 o senza e non sono quindi per tutti. Li proverò ancora per qualche giorno alternadoli con altra marca in prova e poi deciderò se fare il reso. Altra piccola pecca.. sul bordino della lente in basso c'è una piccolissima bolla. Non la noti quando li indossi, ma se li togli la vedi e questà è una disattenzione, ma sono certo che gunnar li sostituirà se lo chiedessi.
