This is a USB 2.0 drive. And it does what it should.

This is clearly advertised as a USB 2.0 flash drive. If you want a USB 3.0 drive, do not order this drive and then complain that you would have preferred a USB 3.0 drive. Evaluate it as how it was advertised. That's how all of us would like to be treated, right? This is a USB 2.0 flash drive from a brand name, Verbatim, for the amazing price of under $10. That's what you pay for a USB 2.0 drive. A USB 3.0 drive costs more. And it does what it says. It stores 32 GB of data at USB 2.0 speeds, in a tiny device. Note that it does not have a status LED to show you it's working, but you can see that from your laptop or whatever. That saves on the cost. You could buy one with an LED, but that costs money, and the manufacturer would have to shave off costs elsewhere or price it higher. Other than that, I'd say this does the job - at the slower USB 2.0 speeds, as expected - in a tiny package that provides for safe transport.

Lots of Storage in a Tiny Device

This is a great little flashdrive. When folded up, it's about the size of my thumb, so it's super easy to transport and carry with you in your pocket, or in a jacket or purse pocket. For 32GB of storage, $10 is a great deal. I used to spend that much for 1 or 2GB years ago. 32GB can store a lot of data. I use this flashdrive mainly for music in my car. 32GB can store a lot of songs. If you're a business traveler, this little flashdrive can come in handy to carry your presentations and whatnot. You can easily clip a lanyard to the flashdrive's hook and carry it around your neck to make sure it doesn't get lost.

Good size, both storage and physical.

This little thing has worked itself into our lives pretty well. I have only one teeeny tiny little fuss. The good stuff: - Case is sturdy enough, when closed it stays, when open it stays - Inoffensive looking; not an eyesore nor an eye-catcher, in case that matters to anyone - Performance has been perfect; nothing lost, no burps - Storage size is relevant and will be useful for some time to come The one eensy little thing is the block inside is black. That makes it hard to see sometimes. I have no idea if anyone else cares in the least, but it's a pet peeve of mine. In this case, I just used my silver Sharpie and now I can see which way it goes in, the first time heh. (Not taking a star off) The swivel will wear out someday but for now it's good and stiff. The little loop handle was a bit difficult to get on my key chain but I managed. too wide and slow, but fairly priced

I tested this Verbatim flash drive on a Toshiba Tecra laptop with 32 GB RAM, a SSD, Intel Core i7vPro CPU, Windows 7 Pro 64 OS, and a 3.0 USB port. I tested this drive on a 3.0 port, despite its being 2.0, as ports are backward compatible. My system had no trouble recognizing the flash drive. I plugged it in, and my system told me the software drivers were already installed, and the flash drive was ready to use. For my test, I drag & dropped a 7.87 GB (i.e., 8,260,006 KB) MP4 file (a movie) from my SSD to the flash drive. On my first attempt to transfer the movie to the flash drive, I was told the MP4 file was too large for the flash drive. I've had this problem with previous flash drives that are formatted in FAT32 (as is this one). My laptop recognized that this flash drive had 29.1 GB of empty space, enough for a 7.87 GB file, but 29.1 GB is apparently not enough with a FAT32 format. I reformatted this flash drive to NTFS, and later to exFAT. In both instances, the flash drive was able to accept the MP4 file. When the flash drive was formatted at NTFS (allocation unit size: 64 kilobytes), the file transfer froze after 5 minutes, with 20.4 MB remaining to transfer. I waited two more minutes, but the drive seemed unable to accept that final 20.4 MB. So I canceled the transfer, with took about a minute to complete. But then when I tried to play the MP4 movie, it played fine. All there on the flash drive, right through to the end credits. So it seems the file had been fully transferred after 5 minutes, then froze. When I reformatted the flash drive to exFAT (allocation unit size: 32,768 kilobytes) the file transfer from my SDD to the flash drive took a whopping 9 minutes and 21 seconds. Slower than the NTFS format. On the other hand, the transfer did not freeze at any point. One selling point of this flash drive is that it "flips" close into a casing, rather than require a cap. But that creates a problem. The casing adds to the width of this flash drive, making for a tight squeeze with some USB ports. See the photo of my laptop: Two USB ports side by side. This Verbatim flash drive is wide, due to its casing. The orange USB plug beside it is slender, so the two of them can fit side by side. But if you had another one of these flip flash drives, you'd have to leave one of the USB ports empty. They hog too much space to be used side by side, simultaneously. This Verbatim flash drive is only 32 GB, at a time when one of my flash drives is 128 GB. It's only 2.0 in this era of 3.0. And its width is inconvenient. Overall this Verbatim flash drive is ... okay. It will get the job done, but it's not an outstanding flash drive. However, it's fairly cheap, so you get what you pay for.

Small Device, Performs Well

I have had good fortune with Verbatim products in the past, particularly blank CDs. I was excited to try this thumb drive and it has worked out well for me so far. The biggest plus is the size of the whole unit. This is a 32GB drive which is a good size for most things anymore. It is good as a mass storage device but it also is suitable as boot media if you need to use it for recovery media, OS replacement or other things. There are bigger thumbs drives out there, but this one is big enough for most. It comes preformatted with a FAT32 file system which makes it easy to read by practically all modern operating systems. My Linux system is able to mount it and read it, and Windows 10 opens it automatically. I likely will reformat it though for a better-performing file system to use primarily on my Linux system. I looked on the drive for hidden files and found only the system volume stuff. I did not make notes on the read/write speeds but it seems to perform on par with other name-brand drives I have. I have worked with drives that are quite slow when copying larger files like ISO images; this one seems about average when compared to Sandisk and PNY drives. Where this drive really distinguishes itself, though, is in the very small size, which is good but also could be a problem. It folds up to about the size of a nickel (approximately) and easily fits in a change pocket. This keeps it out of the way and makes it easy to toss in a bag, purse, pocket or backpack even when it’s full. However, it also means it can easily find its way into the laundry. So far, I have no complaints with this drive and am happy to recommend it. It performs well, it is easily recognized on different platforms and is small enough to go just about anywhere.
