I have a desk where people frequently stand at my 3:00-4:00. This screen does darken the screen partially at extreme angles (like 3:00), but as soon as they hit 3:15, the screen is easily read. It's pretty difficult to read the screen at 3:00 anyway. There's no real improvement in privacy with this screen on, but there is a noticeable darkening of the screen. Not worth $60, and I wouldn't have purchased it for less either. For what it's worth the fit is perfect and the order by laptop application tool worked well.

We have been using the 3M Gold privacy filters for years and they are, pardon the pun, the gold standard. In fact, I normally rate the gold filters 4 stars. The only reason I ding them a star is the terrible adhesive system they include to affix the filters to the displays. That same adhesive is included with the black filters as well. We keep a role of Scotch double-sided transparent tape in the office to affix these as the included adhesive is terrible, but that's not the reason for the poor review on the black version for these filters. The sad truth is that it just doesn't work. At least no where near to the level of their gold version that has all but disappeared online. When I could no longer find the gold version for a new laptop, I tried the black version despite other reviews. I then took two laptops, one with the gold filter and one with this black version, placed them side by side, and began moving off to the side to test the privacy function. There is just no comparison, and we deal with privileged, patient information. On the gold version, you get the added benefit of a glare when moving off to the side that prohibits seeing what is on the screen, and it takes very little angle to trigger the privacy. This one I could read information on the screen at twice the angle with little problem at all. It's so bad that I had to go rob a gold one off of another computer, and use a paper cutter to cut it down to the right size for the new laptop and am returning this one.
