I use this power strip for my 20g long aquarium. I only use three outlets (heater, power filter and light). I use lights that have 24/7 features. I like the fact it has a cover over the switch to prevent accidental shutoff. My old power strip would switch off sometimes unplugging the filter for cleaning. Have one extra outlet as a spare. I don't see a need to replace it ever because it's built solid.

This model is called "power-it" not protect-it. It doesn't do surge protection. It's simply a power distributor. The unit is very well built though.

I bought this for our vintage travel trailer that doesn't have electricity.. The trailer used to have electricity, but the control box is shot, so we wanted something to use for lights and a little personal heater. This worked great. My husband popped out one of the outlets (that would have been used to plug in an extension cord to the trailer) and replaced it with the plug of this unit, so this unit is inside the trailer. All we had to do was plug this into a heavy duty extension cord and plugged that into the campsite electrical box, and we had power without having to leave a window or the door cracked open for the cord. It has little holes in each end so you can screw it down. The only problem is, the holes aren't tapped through when you receive it.. My husband had to tap out the holes, but it wasn't a big deal. The unit is made from metal so it's heavy duty and doesn't flip around like many power outlet strips do...The only reason I screwed it down is so it would stay put when traveling. The on off switch has a plastic cover for protection.. You just flip it up to turn the unit on and off. For what we're using it for, we really don't need that cover, but it's there if you want it..

Most power strips are pretty anemic; even if they're rated 15 amps, you're kind of pushing it if you go that far. This strip actually has a proper 20-amp power plug (one prong is rotated 90 degrees) so as to encourage you to only plug it int 20-amp capable outlets. Once that's done, the receptacles on it are very heavy duty, and you can get some serious work done without being concerned that components are heating up or otherwise building up to an impending failure. In cases where you're using power tools, even when they're designed to work under 15 amps, this is better than a normal strip because you'll get less voltage drop, and you're working quite a bit further inside the maximum ratings of the device. The covered power switch and breaker are nice touches, and I positively love the long, long cord: 15 feet! (Manufacturers take note... six feet isn't always enough. Please offer this kind of length as an option.) The unit comes with a lifetime warranty, and I think that tells you something about how it's built -- the manufacturer doesn't expect you to be able to hurt the thing in normal use. Kind of makes those 30...60 day warranties on those cheap imports look... cheap.
