OPEN BOX - Vantec UGT-FW210 2Plus1 Firewire 800/400 PCie Combo Host Card

Firewire is considered "old" technology these days, even though many of us still have all kinds of equipment that utilizes Firewire. I plugged this into a brand new (Oct 2023) PC running Windows 11, and it works flawlessly. Windows recognized it, the driver was installed, and now my 10-year-old audio interface talks to my new PC like they're old friends!

Just reviewed a FW400 card. This is an 800/400 card. I only need the 400, but have discovered that the 800 cards are more stable. No drivers included. Found easily enough on the manufacturer website. Installation of drivers was a bit problematic. After install my external device was not detected, and the PCIe card wasn't showing in Dev Mgr either. Long story short, after a few attempts, and a reboot, is working as intended. Kind of a long route to get there, but seems more stable than the FW400 card I initially purchased.

Not much to report. I was only using it in conjunction with a 400mhz device, but I threw it into a frustratingly finicky motherboard and Win10 recognized it instantly, as did Win10 when I hooked up the device (an external DVD device). No idea if it works with Win11, but I would be surprised if there were any issues: Win11 is just win10 with adware. It's identified by Win10 by it's Texas Instruments chipset. I didn't use the enclosed SATA>4pin MOLEX power adapter, as those are infamous for causing shorts and fires - but as my firewire device was self-powered that was not a concern: power delivery was not required. The card arrived on the promised day, (2 days from order, Metro Melbourne).

Great product. I use this to hook up to my Presonous 24.4.2 recording mixing board, no issues, plugged it in and worked right away. No downloads for this at all, just obviously need a cable to hook up to you device. Recommend getting a quality cable as well.
