OPEN BOX - Tripp Lite RBC92-2U Replacement Battery Cartridge for Select Tripp Lite & Other Major UPS Brand

I bought this battery pack 2 years and 9 months ago. It worked fine. However, it suddenly, randomly died overnight. When I disassembled the UPS to replace it I discovered why it suddenly stopped working, one of the batteries had popped, and left sulfites all over the inside of the UPS's case. Im guessing it had slowly been leaking sulfites out of one of the negative terminals as well, as when I went to remove it, it was so rotten that the bottom of the connector and the bottom of the plastic shielding were totally disintegrated and it just fell off. For that advanced decay, it has probably been leaking for at least a year, possibly since "brand new" (who knows how long it sat on a shelf before I got it, the only marking I can identify as a date code appears to say 1st week 2010...) The original battery pack lasted 6 years under identical conditions (1 or 2 total power outages, never let it drain, always shut the equipment off within a few minutes, otherwise powered and in use 24/7). The original battery pack also seemed to support the equipment longer, I feel like I had 20 or 30 minutes to finish what I was doing, this pack would last around 10-15 minutes only. Considering the cost of this "official" replacement pack, I would expect better. I do not believe these are the same OEM batteries that the unit shipped with. They arent OEM'd, and are marked as Hitachi, made in vietnam. The original batteries werent OEM'd either, but had no markings whatsoever. For 1/3rd the price, you can get CyberPower RB1290's which are identical spec'd and sized batteries. They are also far more in line with what you would expect a 12v9a battery to cost (around 35-50 dollars each). The only downside is they do not come with the leads as theyre sold individually. Luckily I had the original leads and was able to reuse them. Even if these ones only last 3 years, which I expect they will as I have a similarly spec'd cyberpower UPS on another set of equipment going on 4 years with the OEM battery, it is still a far, far better value than what is being asked for this pack.

I paid extra for a Tripp Lite Certified battery so it would last longer than the other brands, but I only got 3 years out of it. The batteries are actually CSB brand, so they are not made by Tripp-Lite. 3 years ago I paid $100, now in December 2023 they want $167! I know costs have risen, but by 67%? I bought two CyberPower RB1290 batteries and transferred the wiring over from the old battery, for a total of $81--over HALF of what Tripp-Lite wants for their so called "Certified" battery. These fit perfectly in my UPS, too.

It's a battery. It does its job.

I bought this for a replacement in a Tripp Lite 1500VA. I put it in and everything checkout no alerts and then first thing in the morning I get a call from my plant manager saying there's a weird smell coming from the IDF network cabinet. I go take a look....mind you via scissor lift and open up the front panel and there is battery acid all over the bottom of the unit. I could not pull it out because the batteries had swelled up.

My battery in a large Triplite backup tower was way over expiration although the system was still working. I replaced the battery very easily and everything is still working.
