I was moving and so wanted to make full backups of all my different hard drives to take with me as part of my carry on baggage. Worked fabulously from that perspective and was very easy as well as quick to backup various directories across our various pc / laptops and Nas.

Three seperate PC's state the drive is corrupted after only years of backup only. I only turned the unit on to backup my main drive. Then once Norton completes the thrice weekly backup, the unit turns off and is under constant cooling fans. Outside of singing it lullabys to sleep, there should be no reason this POS is dead! UPDATE: After formatting the drive and losing everything on it. The drive now appears to be it's chipper self again. Thankfully I am using ONLY as a backup drive for one still functioning well.

These are great drives, and if you are looking to mount these, you CAN !!! ( though it's not mentioned anywhere on this site, or documents in the box ). So, what will you need? 1. Pop off the little hex bolt looking things, as these are actually just hole covers ( I used a hex bit and just tilted them a bit, and they popped right off ) 2. You will find mounting holes Under the pseudo hex bolt cover. These take 1/4" - 20 screws ( the same kind you use to mount a camera ). They sell these on Amazon too. I needed the 1/4" - 20 x 17mm length for my installation. I also opted to add rubber washers to cut down on vibration ( these are called 1/4" anti-scratch rubber pads by most camera retailers ) 3. I used 4" floating shelf mounts and got a 4-pack. Just ensure there is enough clearance from the wall so air can move around the entire device. You probably don't want this thing right up against your wall. If you are worried about the orientation of how these are mounted, don't be ( as seen in the other reviews ). The main thing you need to worry about with these HHD is moving/bumping them when running. So as long as you mount them in a good spot that won't get disturbed, you are good.

I have two of these and only on ordering the second did I notice that there were a lot of reviews mentioning random "disconnects". Most seem to be using Macs, but at least one complained that it would "vanish" from My Computer. I've seen large thumb drives that randomly become "inaccessible" to Windows (though remain in My Computer), but never heard of external HDDs doing this. What a nightmare that would be. Thankfully, using Windows 10, I have not experienced any such issues with these drives. I did disable "Selective Suspend" and the ability for Windows to turn off the drive in Device Manager, but I have no idea if either of these steps were required, as I never saw the first one disconnect or vanish and I had Selective Suspend on at that time. Like a lot of external drives, these do eventually "sleep" with inactivity and this causes a few second pause on the first read. After that, they stay awake until the next period of inactivity (seems to be measured in hours, not minutes). These drives must be reformatted for Windows using Disk Management (context click the Start Button to find it on a menu). That's simple to do and documented enough that a Google search will easily find the instructions. 10.9TB out of 12TB seems about par for the course, as apparently Windows "loses" some of each drive. Have also seen advice to be sure to use the cable that comes with the drive. That's ridiculous, unless all other available cables are not up to the latest standards. I've used these drives with random USB-C and USB-C to A cables without any issues. These drives are also seem very sturdy and I've heard that they can run standing on end or lying flat. Will be putting that to the test soon, as I need one of them to fit into a tight space in a cabinet.
