Even though some software didn’t want to work on it… the main programs I wanted to have on the external SSD worked just fine. I don’t blame the problem I had on the hardware.. I blame the software that I was trying to put on it since it mostly did work with most of what I was trying to use. Good investment for a gamer like me who wanted more storage. I play mostly older games though, so if you want even more space for newer games, maybe get 2Tb or more.

Fast and it's not hot. Some of my external drive, once it started moving files, it's getting hot. Sometimes, I'm getting corrupted files from MacOS Intel. I will try to use this in Tesla storage. I will update this review after a year. Today is 11/22/2023.

Faster than the T7 Same Quality

I love how small this drive is. Super easy to carry around in your laptop bag or your pocket even. It has a rubberized outer shell which is going to protect it from falls. I really love that Samsung included both USB C to USB C and USB A to USB C cables. They could have included a USB C to USB A adapter and that would have been perfectly acceptable as well. I first connected the drive to my laptop that has a 12th gen intel CPU and thunderbolt 4 port, but couldn't get speeds past 260 MB/s when transferring one large file from the laptops NVME SSD. I tried several times in that port as well as the other USB ports, but it just wouldn't go any faster. I switched to testing on my desktop that has several USB 3.2 gen 2 ports, which are capable of a theoretical throughput of 20 Gbps. Real world I managed to get very consistent speeds of over 660 MB/s (5.312 Gbps). Using Crystal Disk Mark, all of my runs (which were with different file sizes) were all extremely close to one another and the best I could do was get 8.256 Gbps. I realize there is overhead for USB devices and you will never get the full bandwidth, but I'm getting half the speed that Samsung says this drive should provide in these tests and even less than that real world. I'm not complaining about getting over 660 MB/s moving files from one drive this external drive, but being that this is a test and review, I needed to let all of you know so you can make an informed decision. I honestly don't know under what conditions someone would be able to get 2000 MB/s sustained with this SSD. The last thing I wanted to add to this review regards the price being charged for 1TB of space. The external case is not going to cost much for Samsung to have manufactured. An nvme to USB 3 enclosure is around ten to fifteen max. A 1TB gen 4 nvme drive can be had for under seventy that can hit speeds of 3500 MB/s and that's a Samsung nvme drive I'm talking about. So what is Samsung asking people to pay an extra fifty/sixty bucks for? The price is just too high for me to recommend this drive over something either less expensive for the same size, or something with more storage for the same price.

This external SSD is incredible and works exactly as advertised, as long as you are using it correctly. The SSD itself is small enough to fit in most pockets for taking on the go, and it has a rubberized grip that makes it easy to carry as well as being durable enough to survive small drops. The rubberized texture also helps keep it in place on your desk without it sliding around. On the side of the SSD there is a single USB-C port for connecting it to your phone, tablet or computer with the included USB-C to C and C to A cables in the box. The SSD is incredibly fast as it is by far the fastest external SSD I have used if you don't count NVMe Enclosures. When using the USB-C to C cable, I was able to get almost identical speeds to what was advertised, but those speeds were halved when switching from that cable to the C to Type A cable. This isn't an issue though, as Samsung specifies on the packaging that each cable is rated for specific speeds with the C to C cable advertised for 20Gbps and the C to A cable for 10Gbps. Additionally, you must also have a device that has USB ports capable of delivering such bandwidth as well. The SSD also includes the software for it directly on the drive, so when you first connect it, you can install the software and then enable password protection if you choose to encrypt your files. I left the security features off as I personally don't need them, but if you are using this for business documents or other confidential information, then this is a good feature to have. As a content creator, this portable SSD has been incredibly useful as I am able to transfer large video files in a breeze and then take the SSD between locations for editing on the go. Large 100GB transfers can be done in less than a couple minutes at full speed, and it has never had any issues with slowing down or overheating. Whether you use this for videos and photos, games, or software, it is hard to find a fault with this drive. Overall, I highly recommend this portable SSD to everyone as it is blazing fast and incredibly easy to use. It even includes a 5 year limited warranty which helps ensure that it should last for years to come.
