Like others who have written reviews, I bought this hoping that this would allow my Android phone (a cheap Moto E6) to quick-charge while connected to the head unit for Android Auto (Sony XAV-AX3000). When connected directly to the head unit, my E6 showed "slow charge" and would slowly drain over time. After buying this cable, I plugged the black connector to my Android Auto usb port and the red connector to my phone charger and...still "slowly charging". If I plugged the black connecter directly into the phone charger and leave the red connector unplugged, I get "TurboPower". So the cable itself is fine. This led me to get out my scissors and soldering kit. I cut both wires and directly connected the red/black wires (the power wires) from the red-tip cable to the power wires leading to the micro-USB tip, totally bypassing the black tip connector. I then soldered the rest of the connections back together (leaving the red/black wire from the black connector un-connected) and...still slow charging. I think what the main problem is is that the Android Auto head-unit and phone are not negotiating the amount of power that can be delivered to the phone, and it's defaulting to the minimal level of charge (500 milliamps), aka "slow charge". I don't know how this can be remedied and if it's a problem with the head unit or the phone itself. I'm not going to negatively rate this product because it's not advertised as a way to boost Android Auto power levels.

It's probably best to use dual USB ports fed by the same power source, since both cables supply power to the micro plug on the other end (only one supplies data, but they both supply power). Since both plugs are wired for power in parallel (tied together), things could get wonky if the USB ports voltage was different, etc. (running off of different power supplies), so probably best to use two USB ports that are shared from the same power brick, laptop, adapter, etc. to power both plugs. My application for this is to supply extra power to a USB based cellular modem (a PCIe type in an enclosure), since I will be plugging it into a single USB port on a mini router and that port may not supply enough power on its own for the modem. I'll be using a USB power bank that has two ports to run both (for a mobile application). One port on the power bank will feed the router (the router is powered via a USB cable) and the other port on the power bank will feed the red plug here. The data+power side of the cable (the black plug) will plug into my mini router. The USB micro end will go to the modem enclosure. This will keep me from having to run a powered USB hub in-between the router and the modem for the time being, but, for a more permanent install, I would consider getting a powered hub and not using a Y cable altogether.

So, first of, I bought this cable to get my WD Elements SE HDD to work with my Wii U. Some portable HDD's will not work correctly with the Wii U, because the Wii U in general does not provide enough power output through the USB Ports. This results in the HDD randomly disconnecting due to not getting enough power, and this can happen while installing games, while playing them, or even just when your browsing around the system menu. The cable itself fixed this problem, so I am quite pleased with it. My only concern, and the reason why this only gets 4 stars, is that I was quite confused when I first got my hands on the cable. The Micro B end of the cable was not entirely identical to the cable that shipped with the HDD. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I guess you can say that it was missing one of the 2 connecters that was on the original cable, and so I was afraid I had gotten the wrong cable. After a few days of research, I found out why: The HDD that I bought had USB 3.0 compatibility, so naturally the original cable was a USB 3.0, but this cable here is only 2.0. I guess the extra connecter is necessary for the 3.0 functionality, because the cable works just fine even without it. Still, I would have appreciated that this had been outlined somewhere in the product description or something, because I really thought I had gotten the wrong cable. Otherwise the cable is definitely worth it.
