PNY XLR8 CS3040 M.2 NVMe Gen4 2TB Internal Solid State Drive

It works and was pretty easy to install, but the read/write speed shown on PS5 after installing is lower than the speed advertised on the box. Seems to work fine. No issues so far.

I grabbed the 2TB version of the CS3040 to use as a storage drive in a new Alder Lake build. I'd been using a pair of 6tb WD Black spinners in R0, but as the storage is primarily used for games I decided to go with speed over size. The upside is there is a definite speed improvement, obviously. In both transfer and random access. Downside is it's not quite hitting the rated transfer speeds in benchmarks, a few hundred MB/s short in both reads and writes according to CDM. Still faster than a gen 3 NVMe drive, however. This is in a 12700k build, with a GB Z690 Aorus Pro and a 2x16gb T.Force Delta 6000MHz kit. The 3040 is in the second NVMe slot using the motherboard's included heatsink.

I now had had the NVMe drive in my PS5 for a month now. No issues easy to install, runs fast and cool because it paired with a heat sink ( recommended ). I play on the PS5 3 to 4 hours a day 4 times a week. Moved over 150GB in about 15 mins at a rate of a little over 5600mbs. It a heck of a deal for the price. You can pay more for a faster NVMe which saves you a few minutes but why!?!?

Not sure why but I bought this card thinking it would meet the minimum requirements for my ps5 as it’s advertised that it has speeds that would do so and I’ve watched YouTube videos that confirmed the speeds in a ps5 but for some reason when I installed it in my ps5 the console said it was only reading speeds of about 3859 mb/s which is substantially lower than the 5500 mb/s that the ps5 minimally requires. The card still worked but was about 1700 mb/s what Sony requires for their ssd expansion so I returned it not knowing if this thing would run games 2-3 years into the future. Not sure why mine was reading slower than what all the YouTube videos I watched were showing but I couldn’t chance the possibility that the speeds wouldn’t be adequate in the future when games are larger and more complex.
