OPEN BOX - Asus ZenScreen MB166C 15.6" Full HD LED LCD Monitor - 16:9 - Black

I just got this portable monitor. Out of the box my immediate thought was, "Where is the kickstand?" I then realized the case needs to be folded over on itself to create the stand. For the first test of the monitor, I just held it as I plugged it into the computer. It immediately worked and seems to have a great picture. Later, I figured out how the case / stand works, and it seems like it will be OK, but have not yet used it in a real setting.

This is such an amazing, portable product. The clarity and color is pristine, vibrant, and pleasant. The screen slides into padded sleeve. When the sleeve is removed, it folds into a monitor stand. The stand seemed a bit awkward at first, but after understanding how to use it I think it works great! (fold and attach Velcro end to the other end, choose one of the two incline angles and lift the appropriate flap to hold the monitor in position). There is no place to store the cable, so I have to plan where to pack that when I travel. I don’t jamb it in the sleeve to avoid a strain on the monitor case or cracking screen while traveling. I can’t think of an elegant alternative that Asus could have done, and making a place for that in or on the outside of the sleeve would make it more bulky or awkward. This is the only downside. The screen performance, thin profile, and excellent product build quality far outweigh this inconvenience.

I don't know why, but I assumed this was going to disappoint me somehow, either in display quality, eating my laptop's battery, or being cumbersome to set up on the move. None of those are the case. I'm loving this product! The case fits it great and works as a stand quite well. I expected to have difficulty with it but none at all once I figured out how to fold it correctly. The battery drain doesn't seem to be much either. I just used the provided cable to plug it into my USB-C/Thunderbolt type port and it fires right up. Even on a Linux box. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one if somebody in the family wants to set up in a similar fashion.

I wanted a smaller secondary screen to view Outlooks/Teams/Discord/Spotify on the side; and one that I could also use with my laptop. This monitor fits the bill and offers touchscreen which really compliments my workflow. Notes: Works perfectly with a single USB-C cable--assuming the USB-C cable can handle both power and video. It comes with a fairly short 1 meter cable so I wanted to find something a bit longer. I found it extremely difficult to find compatible cables. In the end, it seems no cables over 2 meters (even an expensive active one) could not provide power and video. Ultimately, I resorted to using a 2 meter Cable Matters cable which was compatible with this monitor. PROS: - Single USB-C for power/video makes this device extremely simple to use - Decent quality IPS panel - Decent speakers for a slim portable monitor - Sturdy stand - Solid construction - Thin bezel CONS: - Touchscreen functionality only works over USB-C--not mini HDMI - Device UI is your typical ASUS UI which isn't bad but given this device is touch compatible, the UI should interact with touch like other competing portable touchscreen monitors
