The quality of the shell is made of a high quantity polymer plastic which doesn’t create a fingerprint magnet and the thickness of the shell is robust enough that I don’t to worry about babying this device, so no complaints there. I compared it to the LG GP65NB60 and the optical drive was the same minus the stamped metal as this drive is more crisp and the Buffalo also has a metal casing around the optical drive creating a more durable product and less prone to the top caving in, whereas the LG doesn’t have this metal casing feature. Other than those two physical differences in optical drives, everything is identically the same internally. The downside to this dvd drive is that it incorporates a special style of power adaptor which isn’t universal, whereas the LG is Micro-USB. The eject button is flush with the disk tray so feeling for the button is a definite challenge, the LG takes the lead with a pronounced eject button. When it comes to reading disks, I found this drive to either not read discs at all, read them after the third or fourth try which entailed ejecting disc then sliding the cd/dvd back in for another try. When this drive did read, it seemed to be very sluggish, much slower than the LG which makes me scratch my head, seeing as the optical drives seem to be identical. I would have loved to give this a thumbs up but the performance was little to be desired. Maybe in the future they will update their internal optical drive, fix the eject button to be pronounced and also get rid of the less than desirable USB power cord style and switch to either Micro-USB or better yet USB-C and get ahead of the crowd as I feel this company has much more potential, only time will tell.
