I had a Gateway laptop that died. Now have an HP laoptop. Took the old drive out of the Gateway, connected it to this device, plugged it into my new computer, and could instantly see the files on my Gateway. Transferred them painlessly (a little slowly) to my new machine. No problems at all. I love this! I have a bunch of old drives from previous machines. When I have time, I'll see what's on them. Very very thankful for this device!!!! It was delivered on time and in great shape.

This item worked great!!! Worked the way it was described and was fast at transferring data. I would recommend it again. Also is a lot cheaper than have someone like Bestbuy transfer your data from another hard drive for you. However if you do not know how to take your hard drive out of your computer it might be better to let someone like Bestbuy or a computer repair shop do the transferring for you and don't buy this item.

For the most part this device did exactly what it is supposed to do. However, I find that it will not allow me to retrieve data from my old HP laptop. Though, at first glance, it appears to have the correct connector, in reality it does not and no adaptor for the HP hard drive is included.

I read several reviews of products that connected IDE drives to a PC via a USB port. Most reviews contained more than a few negative comments ranging from dead on arrival to burning up PC ports and drives. This product had the fewest reviews of any of them but all were positive and being familiar with Tripp Lite products, I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did. I received the unit today and put it to work on two 2.5" laptop drives and a 3.5" desktop drive. The unit functioned perfectly with all three. I did not use the disk cloning software that is included so I cannot report on it.

This saved our bacon. We got this to connect to our HP Pavillion dv7 when the motherboard went bad almost exactly on the 3 year mark. We watched a Youtube video on how to retrieve data from the hard drive, hooked it up to the old hard drive (this required opening the old laptop and removing the hard drive) then to the new computer we bought, and BAM! we had our photos, documents, and videos back! Whew! Thank you Tripp Lite!
