Qnap TL-D800C 8 Bay Desktop JBOD Diskless NAS Encl

I thought I'd love this a LOT more than I do. Not getting ANYWHERE need the stated speeds. I have 10 more days on the return window and right now it's 50/50 if I keep this or try one of the 10GBe boxes. I like the ability to hot swap different volumes to access backup media. Trying to WORK from this unit given what I am getting for speeds is a whole other matter. I've even bypassed the local motherboard USB ports and installed standalone PCI USB Gen 2 cards, which turn out to be a total fail. Best performance so far was plugging into my XPS laptop with Thunderbolt 4 ports.

This is an amazing and quiet unit that houses a raid 5 at 42tb usable and 12tb raid 0 hitting speeds of 900 read/write pretty amazing.

I have been having difficulty with tons of drives and power including other JBOD devices. Anyways, I just plugged this in to my unraid box and everything works perfectly! Other review led me to this box having problems being read, but no issues. Ran a disk speed test with it running over USB 3.1 and pulled at 55000 MB for the read, which is plenty speed for read and writes. Anyways, may order more.

I loved the idea of this. Unfortunately when attached to a virtual machine server, even through a high speed 3.1 USB port, it was incredibly slow. (I had stats but have since deleted them, sorry. - about a 10th of the speed) It's not the fault of the device, the problem was with VMware ESXi/VSphere (7.0.3). Unfortunately had to return it. When directly attached to a computer with no virtualization slowing it down, I'd recommend it.

I like it overall, cause it was easy to use, support is great, their software is easy to use, and it's generally very quiet (just the sound of hard drives that's unavoidable with spinny disks and man they are loud). But it regularly starts making a loud fan rattling noise. I press on it with my hand and it stops, a remove my hand and it starts again. Sometimes I can adjust it's position and it starts again. I have to imagine I'm not the only one since some reviewers complain about noise.
