Triple bay 2.5" SAS/SATA HDD & SSD mobile rack for 3.5" front device bay. As generation progresses, more and more advanced computer technologies are constantly improving. These improvements include maximizing enhanced functions in smaller and compact packages. This is why 2.5" solid state drives and hard drives are becoming more popular due to its low power consumption and space-saving benefits, which are superior to 3.5? SATA hard drives in almost every Category. Combine with the extra bandwidth of the SSDs and the RAW power of the processors; enterprises are able to accelerate their project-development process more efficiently. Since 2.5" SSDs and adds have smaller storage capacities compared to 3.5" hard drives, maximizing the storage density in limited spaces have become the most important task for many storage consulting firms; a task they often encounters. The Tough arm or MB993SK-B is designed specifically for systems with storage space limitations by fitting 3 x 2.5? SSD / HDD into a single 3.5" front device bay, maximizing the entire space of 3.5" device bay. On top of that, the MB993SK-B is built with heavy duty full metal construction which is commercially suitable for medical & military systems, government agencies, industrial PCs, SMB workstations, VM workstations, mobile DVR systems, aerospace computers, automation systems and embedded systems.

Expensive, cramped power cables

The power cables are very cramped. It is difficult to install with these. Also, once the power cables are installed it is impossible to change the fan settings. Cheap fans are included. The led indicator is very nice and it will blink when the disks are under use.

Not too impressed

Maybe it has to do with them forcing 3 drives in a small space, but the led fell off, and it is very very difficult to get the drive sut. It seems like 3 is pushing it... It may be me, but looking back I would have purchased a 2 drive bay instead.

Wow. That's a lot of drives.

So many drives. 4 SFF connectors makes this much nicer to wire up. Comes with enough screws. Everything works.

A Good Way To Add Storage Bays To Any 5.25" Slot

I used this bay expander to add another four drives to my main PC. I had a number of 2.5" drives lying around, and with the purchase of a new PC I thought I should do something with them. Fitting the bay was easy, it slid straight into a vacant 5.25" single-height bay in the case. A single SATA power cable supplies all four drives. Each drive requires its own data cable. If you don't have enough free SATA ports on your motherboard you'll have to buy a SATA expansion card. It took only moments to fit the drives into the removable caddies, and the caddies slot into the front of the rack. It took less than 30 minutes from opening the box to booting the PC, now with an extra 12TB of storage. The rack was chosen specifically for its all-metal construction and that it could take 2.5" drives up to 15mm thick - I needed this as two of the drives were 4TB fat drives. I don't need the hot-swap function, so I haven't tested this aspect. Should be good for a RAID array though. This isn't a cheap solution, but it is a good solution that should last. Recommended.

Doubled my SSD drives from 8 to 16 for my Broadcom 9460 16I Dell 7920 ssd's don't need the fans.

What a great use for the useless 5.25 IN Bay on the Dell Precision 7920 ETC or any computer desktop. I even run one outboard off of another system with a SAS/SCSI Controller and it is a MAX cheap and works well device. Well worth the money spent. Also run one outside of another desktop that does not have the 5.25 in bay slot but I ran the ctrl cables and SATA power ext. Looks OK but a HACK. I would recommend these. By the way, construction is better than Dell's idea of a removable plus Doubled my SSD drives from 8 to 16 for my Broadcom 9460 16I controller on Dell 7920 ssd's don't need the fans. drive bay in size and engineering and PRICE!!! The Dell with all FLEX Bays installed limit you to 8 drives. This advanced my system to a real tool and big store. ONE CAVEAT I am purchasing a second one of these and been involved in 3 other system upgrades using these and because the first is running so well. It is such a boost to have 8 more SSD drives available. You should note however to apply sufficient power rated supply to your system because I bet all the negative comments and "ONE STAR RATINGS" stem from people overloading their POWER SUPPLIES. Beware of using Power Supply Splitter devices to accommodate multiple devices especially in systems designed for single or dual drives. Even if you think the SSD Drives require less power. I note using a scope, that the B+ 5VDC especially gets dirty fast on overloaded supplies and can spook SSD drives as well as the Rotary Spinning ones on their DATA LINKS. If you have problems try to throttle back the DATA LINK speed if available. My Broadcom 9640 i16 controllers allow this and so do several of my Adaptec controllers. You might want to grab a decent controller before applying this ICY device to a overloaded noisy power source. These ICY back planes really work well when powered correctly. Remember avoid excessive use of power cable splitters! An intelligent power supply will not work with these devices and the DATA LINK is the first indicator i.e. drives dropping off line. Have Fun! Glad it's only a HOBBY!!!
