The Buffalo Portable DVD Writer is an affordable, portable DVD writer with M-DISC support for longer life recordings. This external DVD writer is the ideal companion for a laptop or Netbook and is a high quality alternative to laptop manufacturers pricey options. The Buffalo Portable DVD Drive includes an integrated USB F-cable that snaps to the chassis for mobility. Powered by your laptop USB ports, no AC adapter is necessary. If the power from a single USB port is insufficient, the red LED will glow, indicating additional power is required. In this instance, the convenient USB F-cable allows you to connect to second USB port to power the unit. The Buffalo Portable DVD Writer also includes the CyberLink Media software suite for Windows letting you create CDs and DVDs with music, pictures or videos with ease.

Great value

Purchased the product based on recommendation from HP and paid literally 3 times less at Amazon. From the value perspective, it cannot be beat. The installation went seamless - pop the supplied DVD and it just takes off. I am confused why the manufacturer added a "power booster" cable in addition to the regular cable, but thankful my laptop has two USB ports side by side so both cables can be plugged in. All in all, happy with the purchase. The reliability rating will have to wait until after I use it.

Very portable and usable

This DVD player is portable and easy to use. I watch movies on my laptop. What I don't like about it is the the unit feels very delicate- like it would break easily so I am always very cautious when I use it. And the cord on it is so short that it is hard to find a good place to put the thing while I am using it (balance it on top of my laptop? Underneath it?).

Works fine but boy is it loud sometimes. Have to wonder with this kind of noise how long will it last?
